Booking and payment for accommodation and provisions: It is now possible to book/reserve a bed at our cabins. Approximately half of the bed capacity at the cabin is allocated for this. Bed reservations can be made via each individual cabin on UT.no or on DNT hyttebestilling. Provisions are paid using the new DNT app. It is important to note that bed reservations are only valid until 7 PM on the day you have booked. If you wish to pay after your stay, use the new DNT app. This can be downloaded from Play or App Store. Before your trip, we recommend the checklist. Should difficulties arise with payment/using the payment app, you will find information on how to contact us at the cabin. Local trail report/board for Grøvudalshytta: IMPORTANT: Wild reindeer calving has been registered in Grøvudalen. Animals and calves have been observed along the entire east side of Grøvudalen and partly down to the forest line. It is reasonable to assume that there are also some animals down in the valley. Keep your distance, be observant, and show consideration! Location: Grøvudalshytta is easily accessible in Grøvudalen; it is a nice trip from parking at Hallen and into the cabin in gentle terrain. With a short walk into a mild and lush terrain, where you actually find 85% of all mountain plants in Norway, the cabin is very well suited for trips with small children. The cabin can be reached by mountain bike, but the terrain is challenging, demanding, and requires experience, especially in the first part of the route. The area around Grøvudalshytta is easy to walk; feel free to check out our tips for hikes from the cabin. Wild reindeer: The cabin is located in one of Norway’s 24 wild reindeer areas. Here you can learn more about how to be considerate of wild reindeer when traveling in the mountains. Registration in guestbook/payment for stay: Upon arrival at the cabin, sign into the guestbook and settle up before departure. Feel free to use DNT’s payment app! With DNT Hyttebetaling on your mobile, cabin-to-cabin trips become even easier! The app also works in cabins without mobile coverage - you then enter your purchases offline at the cabin and pay via the app on your mobile when you get coverage. The DNT key: Some of our cabins are locked with a DNT key. We have several sales points for the key; see overview and information on our website (scroll down a bit) here. If you land by plane at Kvernberget, you can pay for the key in advance and receive a code for the key box we have there. Grøvudalshytta is open, i.e., not locked with a DNT key. Provisions: In the main cabin, you will always find a good selection of canned goods and accessories for dinner, and dry goods for breakfast and packed lunch. Biscuits and chocolate for coffee are also available in the assortment. About the cabin The main cabin was first put into use in 1915 and is located in an interesting landscape with clear traces from the last ice age. The easiest access is seven kilometers on a flat and easy-to-walk trail from Hallen in Sunndalen. From the cabin, you have marked trails to Aursjøhytta, Raubergshytta, Vangshaugen, Gammelsetra, Loennechenbua, and Åmotdalshytta. Grøvudalshytta consists of several buildings. The main cabin is in use during the summer; it has good capacity with five bedrooms and a dormitory, a large living room, and a large and well-equipped new kitchen. In Stabburet, there is a bedroom on the first floor and a kitchenette/bedroom on the 2nd floor. In winter, it is easiest to use this building for heating. In Uthuset, there is a WC and laundry room and a room for the dog and its owner. The cabin is open all year round. The main cabin and Stabburet are equipped with a gas hob and everything you need to prepare and serve food. Reserve a bed at Grøvudalshytta here: DNT hyttebestilling Electricity/mobile: The cabin has 12V electricity for lighting and charging possibilities. Mobile coverage is variable. Regarding mobile charging, we sometimes experience some technical challenges. We therefore recommend a power bank as a backup. Beds/accommodation: There are a total of 41 beds at Grøvudalshytta, and it is also possible to place 3 people on the sofa in the main house. In KNT’s cabins, we use a sleeping sheet or personal bedding (pillowcase, duvet cover, and sheet). Sleeping bags are not allowed inside the cabins due to hygiene and bed bug issues. Dog: Facilities for dogs are available in the bedroom downstairs in Stabburet and in Uthuset. In both places, there is a cage where the dog must be when in the room. The dog must not be in the room unsupervised, and must not be in other common rooms. This is to accommodate allergy sufferers. We ask that this be respected. Water: Water is fetched from the river right by the cabin. Garbage/Waste: If possible, take garbage/waste back from your trip. Information on garbage/waste disposal can be found in the information binder at the cabin. Tent: Tenting is not facilitated. If you are sleeping in a tent, remember to pay for a day visit/tent, and that the tent should be placed a good distance from the cabin. For stays at the cabin after 6 PM, standard overnight rates apply. Fishing: There is good trout fishing in Grøvudalen.
