About this spot

Booking and payment for accommodation and provisions: It is now possible to book/reserve a bed at our cabins. Approximately half of the bed capacity at the cabin is allocated for this. Bed reservations can be made via each individual cabin on UT.no or on DNT hyttebestilling. Provisions are paid using the new DNT app. It is important to note that bed reservations are only valid until 7 PM on the day you have booked. If you wish to pay after your stay, use the new DNT app. This can be downloaded from Play or App Store. Before your trip, we recommend this checklist. Should difficulties arise with payment/using the payment app, you will find information on how to contact us at the cabin. Local trail report/board for Gammelsetra: 16.06.26: Technical problems with mobile charger at Gammelsetra. Location: In the middle of the trail network in Dovre- and Sunndalsfjella, you will find this old and cozy mountain farmstead consisting of four buildings. With its short access, the cabin is well-suited for seniors or families with small children. From the cabin, marked routes lead to Dindalshytta, Loennechenbua/Åmotdalshytta, Vangshaugen, and Grøvudalshytta, but the cabin can also be used as a starting point for easy strolls in the area. Gammelsetra has a distinctive interior, including Huldreburet in Fjøset. There are good fishing opportunities in the area, especially for fly fishing. NB. Fishing permits can be purchased here. Wild reindeer: The cabin is located in one of Norway’s 24 wild reindeer areas. Here you can learn more about how to be considerate of wild reindeer when traveling in the mountains. If you want to know more about the wild reindeer’s use of the mountains and how DNT works with wild reindeer and travel, you can find it at dnt.no/villrein. Gammelsetra is one of several cabins we recommend as particularly child- and family-friendly. Read more about the cabins and the many offers here. Gammelsetra consists of four houses. Aakerstua has 7 beds. Here there is a living room and kitchen. In Aakerstua, you will find the guestbook and provision store for Gammelsetra. Gammelstua has a large living room, kitchen, and 23 beds. In Eldhuset, there are 2 beds, in addition to a cage for the dog. Fjøset is the service building at Gammelsetra. Here you will find firewood, WC, and a small storage for gas, toilet paper, and more. Outside Fjøset, there is waste disposal. Registration in guestbook/payment for stay: Upon arrival at the cabin, sign into the guestbook and settle up before departure. Feel free to use DNT’s payment app! With DNT Hyttebetaling on your mobile, cabin-to-cabin trips become even easier! The app also works in cabins without mobile coverage - you then enter your purchases offline at the cabin and pay via the app on your mobile when you get coverage. The DNT key: Some of our cabins are locked with a DNT key. We have several sales points for the key; see overview and information on our website (scroll down a bit) here. If you land by plane at Kvernberget, you can pay for the key in advance and receive a code for the key box we have there. Gammelsetra is locked with a DNT key. Provisions: At the cabin, you will always find a good selection of canned goods and accessories for dinner, and dry goods for breakfast and packed lunch. Biscuits and chocolate for coffee are also available in the assortment. Provisions can be found in Aakerstua. About the cabins: The cabins are open all year round, but locked with a DNT key, and are equipped with a gas hob and everything you need to prepare and serve food. Information about the cabin, provisions, and other practical details can be found in the cabin. Reserve a bed at Gammelsetra here: DNT hyttebestilling Electricity/mobile: The cabin has 12V electricity for lighting and charging possibilities. No mobile coverage. Regarding mobile charging, we sometimes experience some technical challenges. We therefore recommend a power bank as a backup. Beds/accommodation: There are 32 beds distributed among Gammelstua, Aakerstua, and Eldhuset respectively. In KNT’s cabins, we use a sleeping sheet or personal bedding (pillowcase, duvet cover, and sheet). Sleeping bags are not allowed inside the cabins due to hygiene and bed bug issues. Dog: Facilities for dogs are available in Eldhuset, and a dog room has also been established in Gammelstua. Dogs are not allowed in other indoor common areas; we ask that this be respected. Water: Drinking water is available at the water post near Gammelstua. In winter, snow melting must be accounted for. Garbage/Waste: If possible, take garbage/waste back from your trip. Information on garbage/waste disposal can be found in the information binder at the cabin. Tent: Tenting is not facilitated. If you are sleeping in a tent, remember to pay for a day visit/tent, and that the tent should be placed a good distance from the cabin. For stays at the cabin after 6 PM, standard overnight rates apply. Fishing: If you want to fish in Lindalen, you must buy a fishing permit before entering the valley due to poor mobile coverage. Day permits for fishing and three-day family permits can also be purchased at the parking meter at Jenstad. Read more about fishing in Lindalen here: Great mountain fishing in Lindalen inatur.no. This cabin has received support from the proceeds of Norsk Tipping’s gaming funds.
