NB! At least one person in the hiking party MUST be a member to use Troms Turlag’s cabins. Only members can purchase a DNT key. Goldahytta is located in northern Indre Troms, not far from the three-country cairn and the border with Sweden and Finland. To the west lies Gappohytta, and eastward you’ll find E8 south of Helligskogen. Here you can take a special trip down Stordalen along the south side of the river. It goes westward through a wooded landscape past several good fishing pools. In some places, the river flows deep in gorges, and in other places, it looks as if a giant has scattered building blocks around. During the war, a refugee route passed through this valley, which was perfect for hiding. It is 20 km from the Golda cabins to Signaldalen in the west. The cabin is located along the E1 route which stretches across Europe from Nordkapp to Sicily. How to access the cabin: See information on our website. Location: Gálggojávri/Galgogubba - Goldahytta: Part of Grensesømmen. 14 km, approx. 5 hours. The trail starts from E8 approx. 700 m north of the Finnish border, from the highest pass on E8 (Gálggogubba). Here the trail goes in a NW direction and passes north of Bossovarri, a distinct round peak, located on the border with Finland. The trail gradually turns SW to cross Bossojohka via a bridge and then continues south up the pass between Goallároianibba and Goallároaivi. Then turn more SW again and pass between lakes 832(Nilppanjárgajavri) and 843, and continue forward towards the north side of Goldabákti and down to Goldahytta. It is located just above the reindeer fence approximately 700 m north of Goldajávri at position 802 626, 527 masl. It is also possible to reach the cabin from Treriksrøysa: 3 km, 1 hour. From the cairn itself, you walk a bit into Finnish territory, before turning left through the reindeer fence and onto a trail, which is followed along the north side of Goldajávri to the cabin in easy terrain. A third alternative is to follow an unmarked trail (not T-marked), which begins a few hundred meters south of the customs station, through Malla National Park to Treriksrøysa and further to Goldahytta. Allow approx. 4 hours. Rooms: The cabin cluster consists of several cabins. Old Golda (1972), New Golda (1992), and a separate dog annex connected to the shed (1963). In total, there are 22 sleeping places at the Golda cabins. Old Golda has 10 sleeping places distributed in 2 bedrooms (4 in each) and 2 sleeping places in the living room. New Golda has 10 sleeping places distributed in 2 bedrooms (4 in each) and 2 sleeping places in the living room. The dog annex has 2 sleeping places. Outhouse. Equipment: All Troms Turlag cabins have a wood-burning stove for heating, gas burners for cooking, and kitchen equipment. All cabins, except those close to towns, have duvets and pillows. Bring a sleeping bag liner or sleeping bag. It is recommended to bring candles, matches, and toilet paper for personal use, in case they are missing at the cabin. Water: There is access to water all year round from its own well. The well house is located approximately 25 meters above the woodshed and is easily visible. It is also signposted and marked where the well house is located. Dogs: There is a separate dog annex for those traveling with a dog. It is connected to the outhouse. Here there is a gas stove, cooking equipment, and 2 beds. No dog crates. The dog annex is reserved for visitors with dogs, but as with the cabins themselves, unused beds are released at 9 PM, and then guests without dogs can use them. It is possible to have dogs in the outer hallway of New and Old Goldahytte. Dogs are not allowed in common rooms and bedrooms. There are now 4 great dog houses at this cabin cluster. The houses are built by Troms Prison, and there are chains on the houses to which the dog can be fastened. Bring your own bedding for the dog, and your own dog bowl. Commercial use of Troms Turlag’s cabins: All businesses and commercial operators who bring guests and groups to Troms Turlag’s cabins must contact the tour association office well in advance of each trip to arrange this. There are special prices for commercial groups; information about prices can be read here. Prices are regardless of whether individuals are members or not. One person in the group must have a valid DNT membership. Only members can get access to the key. All guests in the group must be registered in the visitor log. NB! The cabins must not be used by businesses and commercial operators on weekends, during winter and Easter holidays, public holidays (Ascension Day, Pentecost), as well as May 1 and May 17. Activities: The Three-Country Cairn: A trip to Treriksrøysa, which marks the border between Norway, Sweden, and Finland, is a nice day trip of approx. 3 km one way. This is the world’s northernmost Three-Country Cairn. This is also the only one in Norway where you can walk freely into all three countries. Peak hike: A peak hike to Golddabakti (894 masl) is a good alternative for a day trip. Follow the marked route to Gálggojávri and turn off to the summit at approx. 800 masl.
