ATTENTION! Important info: The bridges over Iselva and over Trollelva are damaged. Attempts to cross them are discouraged and done at your own risk. It will take time before the bridges can be repaired or replaced. It is possible to wade both rivers, see info about the Trollelva ford, and Iselva ford. NOTE! At least one person in the touring party MUST be a member to use Troms Turlag’s cabins. Only members can purchase a DNT key. Rosta Jubileumshytta closed in winter December-January! The Rostahyttene cabins are located north in Indre Troms, near the Swedish border. At this pleasant resting place in low-lying terrain there are 33 beds, and from the cabin wall, one has a great view up to towering peaks with snow-flecked sides. Nordkalottruta, Grensesømmen, and E1 all pass through here. The cabin cluster consists of many cabins: Gamle Rosta; built in 1964, Nye Rosta; built in 1973, Jubileumshytta; built in 2007, Hundeannekset; built in 2018. All Rostahyttene cabins are open in winter 2024-2025. Location From Innset-Likkamoen-Rostahytta: 13 km, 3-4 hours. Likkamoen-Rostahytta: 5 km, 1.5 hours. Up Rostadalen to Innset. From here it is just under 2 hours (6.5 km) on a toll road on the south side of Rostaelva/Rosteatnu up the valley. The path goes from the summer parking lot on a road, then a trail to the year-round bridge over Rostaelva (Rosteatnu) to Likkamoen on the north side. The path continues through mixed forest, and occasionally on dry river terraces, up Rostadalen on the north side of the river. (On the year-round bridge over Trollelva/Ruollajohka NOTE! THIS DOES NOT APPLY NOW, AS THE BRIDGE IS DAMAGED AND MUST NOT BE CROSSED). The path then goes uphill and over a hill (478). Some streams are passed. Just before the cabin, a couple of marshy areas, and a footbridge over a stream. Rooms Jubileumshytta has 13 beds distributed across 3 bedrooms. Nye Rostahytta has 8 beds distributed across 3 bedrooms. Gamle Rostahytta has 6 beds in 1 bedroom. Hundeannekset has 4 beds. Outdoor toilet. Equipment Jubileumshytta has solar power for lighting and USB charging. NOTE! Use electricity sparingly during the dark season. All Troms Turlag cabins have a wood-burning stove for heating, gas burners for cooking, and kitchen equipment. All cabins, except those close to towns, have duvets and pillows. Bring a sleeping bag liner or sleeping bag. It is recommended to bring candles, matches, and toilet paper for personal use, in case they are missing at the cabin. Water There are ropes at all cabins for water collection. The supervisors at Rostahyttene ask people to be careful when collecting water. Go down between Jubileumshytta and the old cabin. It should be safe to collect water there! In winter: If you go down between Jubileumshytta and Gamle Rosta, there is a depression in the snow down by the river, where it is easy to dig down to the river. If the water hole is already frozen/snowed over and you have to go down to the river (below the suspension bridge) to collect water: Be careful, go at least 2 people together and use a bucket with a rope (found in the hallway of the old cabin). Dog Facilities for dogs are available in a separate dog annex with 4 beds for those with a dog in their travel party. It is located next to the outhouse. There are 3 cages in the outer hallway. The dog annex is reserved for visitors with dogs, but as with the cabins themselves, unused beds are released at 9 PM, and then guests without dogs can use them. There are now 4 great dog houses at this cabin cluster. The houses are built by Troms Prison, and there are chains on the houses to which dogs can be fastened. Bring your own mat for the dog, and your own dog bowl. It is not possible to pre-book the dog houses. It is possible to have dogs in the outer hallway of Nye and Gamle Rostahytta. Dogs are not permitted in living rooms and bedrooms. Jubileumshytta is dog-free. Booking and payment See booking link on the right for advance booking and payment for accommodation. Not pre-booked? For best offline functionality, you should open the app before the trip. Payment can also be made with Vipps, Paypal, cash (at some cabins), bank transfer, and at the touring association office. Commercial use of Troms Turlag’s cabins All businesses and commercial operators who bring guests and groups to Troms Turlag’s cabins must contact the touring association office well in advance of each trip to arrange this. There are separate prices for commercial use; information about prices can be read here. Prices are independent of whether individuals are members or not. One person in the group must have a valid DNT membership. Only members can get access to the key. All guests in the group must be registered in the visitor log. NOTE! The cabins must not be used by businesses and commercial operators on weekends, during winter and Easter holidays, public holidays (Ascension Day, Pentecost), as well as May 1st and 17th. Activities From the cabin, one can take a day trip on the marked route to Gappohytta, which crosses the Swedish border and eventually re-enters Norway on the north side. Southward, you can plan a nice multi-day trip to Dærtahytta and further to Dividalshytta in Øvre Dividal National Park. Rostahytta is easily accessible from Tamokdalen, via Rostadalen in the west. Swimming in the pool below the bridge. Cross the bridge, a little below the bridge, one goes over the rocks down to the river, where there is a nice swimming hole that is wonderful for a dip. Day trip to Steinhytta in Rostadalen. Other Mobile coverage Mobile coverage only with Telenor near the cabin. A safe spot is about 100 meters uphill on the path towards Iselva. By the west wall of Gamle Rostahytta, there is occasional coverage. At the cabin cluster, there may be coverage, but it is very variable. Under good conditions, one can get coverage inside the cabin itself. You also get Telia coverage at the last hilltop when coming from Innset, exactly where you can see the cabin.
