LOCATION: Halgutusveen is a simple overnight cabin in Vang allmenning. The cabin is located in forested terrain along Rondanestien, approx. 1.5 km north of Bringbusetra in the direction of Raufjellet at the northernmost part of Hamar municipality. The cabin has become much more accessible due to a new service road that crosses Rondanestien in several places and can optionally be walked or cycled on. EQUIPMENT: The cabin is equipped with a wood-burning stove, solar power system, propane stove, and pots, dishes, etc. There are two bunk beds that are double downstairs and single upstairs, with a ladder, totaling 6 sleeping places. The cabin does not have duvets, only blankets, so a sleeping bag is recommended for overnight stays. There is a solar power system with reading lights and a USB charger. TRIP SUGGESTIONS: Good hiking destinations are along Rondanestien and north towards Raufjellet to Øyungshytta or south towards Sandfløten. If you follow Rondanestien a bit north, you will reach Birkebeinerstien. From here you can go east to Rena or west towards Åkersætra, Ljøsheim, and Sjusjøen. A nice day trip from the cabin is also to go up towards Rundhaugen where you also pass a nice lean-to right by the trig point. Nice view. The cabin is also a nice destination in winter. There is an open winter road to Bringbu, and from the winter holiday season, the trail is groomed from Bringbu towards Raufjellet (see new route east of the road). From the road, it is 300 meters from the groomed trail to the cabin, easy to find (sign by the trail and marked with red on the trees along Rondanestien all the way to the cabin). DOG: You can bring a dog to all HHT cabins, but this cabin has no special facilities for dogs. BOOKING AND PAYMENT: At HHT cabins, all beds can be booked in advance, but hikers who have not booked may arrive. If you have not booked and paid in advance, you can pay with the DNT app. Pay for accommodation in the DNT app At self-service and unstaffed DNT cabins, you can easily register and pay for accommodation in the DNT app. Remember to download the app before your trip! See our cabin prices here Become a DNT member here HISTORY: The hut is owned by Vang Almenning, but has been rented out to Hamar and Hedemarken Turistforening (HHT) since 1990. The cabin was built in 1962, as the last of a long series of huts for forestry workers in Vang Almenning’s forests. The man responsible for the construction was forest ranger Gustav Gustavsen. He enjoyed reading and particularly liked Johan Falkberget. In Falkberget’s book, Bjørneskytteren, the characters were named Halgutusveen, and Gustavsen called the forestry workers who were to use the hut the same. Thus the name was given. The cabin was completely restored in 2020 and now has a new stove, new kitchen solution, new windows, new outer door, new exterior cladding, new roof, and new outdoor picnic bench. This was achieved through a good joint effort with Vang Almenning and countless volunteer hours from HHT’s happy volunteers. The restoration was completed at the end of August 2020, and the cabin appears delicate and inviting! There has been logging in the area, so it is now much brighter than before in the area around the cabin.
