About this spot

NB: Due to construction work, it will unfortunately not be possible to bring dogs until September 30, 2026. Storkvolvbua (formerly Storkvelvbu) was built in 1948 and is DNT’s first self-service cabin with pantry supplies. The cabin is located high up in Storkvolven with a great view over Langsua. Great hiking area Langsua has easy terrain, so the opportunities in the area are many for both young and old. There are possibilities for easier day trips - and feel free to stop at one of the many lakes. There is plenty of fish in many of the lakes, and the fish are often willing to bite. If you are interested in a greater challenge, you can take a trip up Nordre and Søre Langsua, both peaks are over 1500 meters high and offer fine views of the surrounding area. Early trail marking in winter Storkvolvbua is also part of the trail network that is marked for the winter holidays in February, so there are opportunities for great ski trips all winter. The area is not prone to avalanches, and the possibilities for great ski trips are many. About the cabin Total number of sleeping places: 25 Number of beds available for booking: 9 Number of beds for drop-in: 16 The beds that can be pre-booked are numbered (see floor plans under Images). Equipment The cabin has all the equipment you need for cooking and a pleasant stay, such as full kitchenware, tableware, and bed linen. In addition, you will find a good selection of food in the pantry. There is no electricity in the cabin, but gas, wood-burning stove, and candles as light sources. Water is fetched from the nearest stream/lake. Guests arrange their own cooking, water collection, washing up, floor cleaning, and general tidying of the cabin inside and out. A sleeping sheet or own bed linen must always be used when staying overnight. Notices with cabin rules and prices can be found at the cabin. Read our guide: how to use a self-service or unstaffed DNT cabin Recipe booklet based on pantry supplies In a new project, we at DNT have worked to develop a recipe booklet based on the pantry supplies in self-service cabins. Here you will find a variety of tempting and surprising dishes you can make when you visit our self-service cabins. Take a look at our recipe booklet Payment Prices for accommodation and pantry supplies Please note that the prices at the cabin follow the price list of DNT Oslo and Omegn. School classes and groups Storkvolvbua is well suited for school classes who want to go on a trip to a self-service cabin. Self-service cabins are popular and educational destinations for many young people. For many young people, it is educational to fetch water from the stream/well, light the stove, cook on a propane stove, and wash dishes by hand. The cabin has all the necessary equipment for this. At the cabins, you will also find science books, children’s and youth books, and games. A hiking map is posted at the cabin showing hiking opportunities in the area around the cabin. Before starting the trip, it is important to do good preparatory work with trip planning in collaboration with the students. Teachers/leaders must familiarize themselves with the rules for using the self-service cabins. Also check what type of pantry supplies are available at the cabin. Upon arrival at the cabin, it is advisable to review the cabin rules with the students. Feel free to distribute tasks such as cooking, carrying water, carrying firewood, and cleaning upon arrival. Remember that it is the teacher’s/leader’s responsibility that the cabin is left according to the rules, which means it must be cleaned before departure. Check that all windows are closed and the door is locked with the standard lock.
