Sauabrehytta is beautifully situated with a fantastic view over the southern end of Folgefonna/Sauabreen, and is an ideal starting point for glacier and peak hikes. It can be used all year and is unlocked, but there is no marked trail up to the cabin. The most common starting points are from Vintertun/Bergstø, but you can also choose the slightly gentler variant from Espeland (10.6 km, 987 vertical meters, approx. 6h). EQUIPMENT: Sauabrehytta has 4 beds in one room, plus two lofts. Two can also sleep on the benches in the common room. The four beds in the room can be pre-booked. Duvets and pillows are provided. Bring bedding or a sleeping sheet. Sleeping bags are not allowed. The cabins are equipped with everything you need for cooking and a stay, including kitchenware, tableware, and provisions. Guests are responsible for cooking, fetching water, cleaning floors, washing dishes, and tidying inside and out. How to use a self-serviced or unserviced DNT cabin. BOOKING AND PAYMENT: You can pre-book beds if you wish. If you have pre-booked a bed, you are entitled to it as long as you arrive at the cabin by 7 PM. The cabins are open to everyone. Day visitors and guests who have not pre-booked are welcome. If there are many visitors, please agree on bed allocation. Pay for food and accommodation in the DNT app: At self-serviced and unserviced DNT cabins, you can easily register and pay for accommodation and provisions in the DNT app. If you have pre-booked: the accommodation is already paid – only register provisions in the app. Remember to download the app before you go on your trip! Remember to sign into the cabin protocol! Practical information about stays at DNT cabins can be found here. DOG: The cabin is not specially adapted for dogs. There is space for one dog in the outer hallway. Bring your own food bowls. Respect leash laws and grazing animals. In Etne municipality, an extended leash law applies from April 1 - October 31. PHONE COVERAGE: There is little phone coverage at the cabin and in the area. Weather and trail conditions vary greatly. Check current conditions before the trip. Snow amounts vary from year to year, so please check snow depth, even if you have visited the cabin during the same period previously. Be aware that the weather in the mountains can change quickly.
