Ellingseterkoia is idyllically located by Ellingsetertjern, 6.2 km from Veme church or 18.5 km on Vassfarstien from Søndre Torg in Hønefoss city center. The cabin is an old cabin for people who worked in logging in the forest around Ellingsetertjern; today it is a charming DNT cabin for those who want to enjoy the tranquility of the forest, take a swim, pick berries, or continue on the path to the next cabin on Vassfarstien. Ellingseter has 4 sleeping places with 2 extra mattresses placed under the bunks. Location. Ellingseterkoia is idyllically located by Ellingsetertjern, 6.2 km from Veme church. It is about a 30-minute drive from Hønefoss city center to the toll booth in Flismoveien where you park. From here, it’s a 4 km walk along a gravel road to the cabin. Access. It is about a 15-minute drive to Veme church from Hønefoss city center. Further in to the toll booth where you park is about 10 minutes. From here, it’s a 4 km walk along a gravel road to the cabin. It is also possible to take a bus to Veme or walk the entire way from Hønefoss city center, which is 18.7 kilometers and the first stage of Vassfarstien. History. The cabin is an old cabin for people who worked in logging in the forest around Ellingsetertjern. Equipment. The 1-room cabin now appears “new” with new floors, windows, paneling, and equipment. It has 4 sleeping places with 2 extra mattresses placed under the bunks. Otherwise, Ellingseterkoia is equipped like the other unstaffed cabins with all equipment such as: bed linen, tableware, pots, gas, wood-burning stove, firewood, candles, matches, etc. You need to bring food, a sleeping sheet/sleeping bag, and personal equipment. Water can be fetched from the stream by the bridge south of the cabin, but with heavy rainfall it is somewhat discolored. The dining table between the beds is fastened to the wall with straps. These can be loosened so that the table can be removed and placed under one of the beds. This creates space for two extra sleeping places on the floor if needed. An old stable contains firewood and some tools etc. At the end of this, you will also find the outdoor toilet. The key for this can be found in the cabin. There are 2 gas cylinders in a gas cabinet on the wall outside the cabin. The tarn offers fishing opportunities, and a canoe is available for free use; life vests can be found at the cabin. Currently, dogs are not allowed in the cabin, but there is a camp bed in the stable where one can sleep with a dog. There is no dog crate there yet. And the dog and owner must have a sleeping bag. Water. Water can be fetched from the stream by the bridge south of the cabin, but with heavy rainfall it is somewhat discolored. Look for the sign and you will find the stream. Dogs. Currently, dogs are not allowed in the cabin, but there is a camp bed in the stable where one can sleep with a dog. There is no dog crate there yet. And the dog and owner must have a sleeping bag. Activities. There is a nice swimming lake at Ellingseterkoia; follow the path behind the cabin and go to Odden where it is easy to get into the water. It has a marshy bottom, but lovely nonetheless. There are also many berries around the cabin and good opportunities for day trips. Supervision at Ellingseterkoia. In DNT Ringerike, we have a cabin manager and an assistant who supervise the cabin. They can be contacted with questions. You can also contact the administration of DNT Ringerike, but often the supervisors have as much or more knowledge about the cabin. Ellingseterkoia is unstaffed and opened with DNT’s standard key. Everyone can use the cabin, but only DNT members get access to the key. The person responsible for the booking must be at least 18 years old. Those who pre-book have priority for beds in the cabin. No one can, however, be turned away. DNT keys can be bought at our Tour Center in Storgata 6, Hønefoss. The cabin is available from 2 PM on the day of arrival until 2 PM on the day of departure. The Tourist Association’s cabins are used for outdoor activities, and it is not permitted to have parties in the cabin. When you book a place in our cabins, you simultaneously confirm that you have accepted our terms and cancellation rules. Day visits. Day visitors must pay for their stay if they use the cabin for cooking or light a fire in the stove. Then one pays for a day stay. Day visitors must leave the cabin by 6 PM at the latest. Payment. For pre-booking, you pay immediately online. Otherwise, you can pay after the trip on DNT’s cabin payment app, or Vipps to 113915.
