About this spot

Hovinkoia is located in the southeastern part of Holleia on a headland in Setertjern. The terrain is easy, and the area is not heavily visited. Here, there are good opportunities for peaceful hikes in forested terrain. You don’t need to go further away from the city to get a great nature experience. In summer, it’s lovely to swim, row, or fish from the headland right outside the cabin. In late summer and autumn, there are plenty of berries, and in winter, fine ski tracks are groomed right past Hovinkoia, allowing for pleasant ski tours in the area. From the parking lot to the cabin, there is a nice trail in summer, which is usually a well-trodden cross-country ski trail in winter. In winter, you can also ski to Hovinkoia when the trails are groomed. The cabin has a simple standard with two bedrooms with family bunks. In addition, there is a sofa bed in the living room. There is a separate dog room with a crate and a bunk bed. Outside the cabin, there is a pleasant outdoor area with beautiful rocky outcrops (svaberg) extending into Setertjern, where it is nice to both fish and swim in the evening sun. A kayak and life vests are also available. Location Hovinkoia is located in the southeastern part of Holleia by idyllic Setertjern. It is about 45 minutes by car from Hønefoss city center and 500 meters along a blue-marked trail to the cabin. Access At Tyristrand, which is about 20 minutes from Hønefoss city center, turn off at Tyristrand church. From here, it is about 20 minutes on a toll road to the north end of Svartvann where parking is available. 500 meters on a blue-marked trail to Hovinkoia. You can also take a bus to Tyristrand and cycle to the north end of Svartvann. In winter, the road to Svartvann is plowed (remember to pay at the toll booth), and there is a ski trail to the cabin when there is enough snow and it has been groomed. The Facebook group “Løyperapport Tyristubbens løypenett” usually provides updates on groomed trails in the area. You can also walk the blue-marked trail on foot or with snowshoes. It is only 500 meters. There are holiday cabins in the area that use the same track, so it tends to be well-trodden. Equipment The cabin has a simple standard with two bedrooms with family bunks. In addition, there is a sofa bed in the living room. There is a separate dog room with its own entrance and with one crate and a bunk bed. Dogs are not allowed in the beds. Unfortunately, there is no heating in this room, so if you want to use the room in winter, you must bring a winter sleeping bag for both dog and owner. We are working on finding a solution to make it more comfortable to bring a dog in winter as well. There is neither electricity nor solar power at Hovinkoia. Be careful when using candles and feel free to bring your own headlamp. There is poor phone coverage, but SMS usually works fine. Water Water is fetched from Setertjern. Note that there are separate buckets for drinking water and separate buckets for floor washing. There is an ice auger in the barn for fetching water in winter. Be careful to check the ice thickness early and late in the season. Dogs There is a separate dog room with its own entrance and with one crate and a bunk bed. Dogs are not allowed in the beds. Unfortunately, there is no heating in this room, so if you want to use the room in winter, you must bring a winter sleeping bag for both dog and owner. Fishing Fishing in several lakes on Holleia, including Setertjern by Hovinkoia. Fishing licenses can be bought from a self-service box at the toll booth on the forest road to the cabin. Activities There are 2 canoes down by the water that guests at the mountain farm can use. You must bring your own life vest. It is nice to swim from Svaberget outside the cabin. Suggestions for day trips: 1. Klomshue, 3 hours, marked trail. 2. Langdalsgruvene (nickel mines), 4 hours on foot or 2 hours by bike (see tour 35 in “40 trivelige turer på Ringerike”). 3.
