At Østerbø Fjellstove, you are served good, traditional Norwegian food. With us, you can enjoy a good mountain breakfast, lunch, and dinner - and if needed, you can pack a lunch for your trip. You can hike the beautiful and historic Aurlandsdalen or one of our many tours in the area. The mountain lodge is idyllically located by Aurdalsvatnet in the middle of the beautiful Aurlandsdalen, right by county road 50 Aurland – Hol. This is one of the main roads between Oslo and Bergen, and it is a short distance to Nærøyfjorden World Heritage Site, Sognefjorden, Flåm with the Flåm Railway, Stegastein, and Borgund stave church. If you are a DNT member, we offer discounts on both accommodation and food when you stay in our Fjellstove rooms. If you stay in a hotel room, cabin, apartment, or campsite, the DNT discount only applies to dinner. At Østerbø in Aurdalen, there was settlement before the Black Death (1349) and re-established from the 1600s. The Aurdalen area is better known as Østerbø today. At one time there were 4 farms there, but in 1803 there were 2. Besides farming, hunting was also an important part of the way of life. Traffic between Hallingdal and Sogn was considerable, and Østerbø was the last place to stay overnight before heading to the high mountains across to Hallingdal.
