About this spot
This small shelter is for you if you want to stay overnight in a forest shelter without others around you and without facilities other than the shelter and fire pit. The shelter is located close to National Cycle Route 1 - Vestkystruten and a blue hiking trail in Tversted Klitplantage. Tenting by the shelter is not permitted. The shelter can be booked, granting priority. If it’s not booked, you are welcome to stay overnight on a “first-come, first-served” basis. In both cases, a maximum of 2 overnight stays in the same shelter. This is the place where you can have a quiet nature experience. Show respect for the area and wildlife by moving quietly and leaving no trace. The opening faces east, and if you’re lucky enough for the sun to shine in the morning, the light streams through the trees, onto the orange Scots pine trunks, down to the forest floor, and into the shelter. Fires may only be made in the fire pit. No firewood is provided. You are welcome to collect dry branches from the forest floor for a fire, but please walk a bit further away so the forest floor in front of the shelter is not cleared of dead branches. Make only a small fire and extinguish it thoroughly afterwards. You may use a small storm kitchen if it is placed stably and safely (e.g., on a small plate you bring). A campfire site with grill grate and firewood, water, and toilet facilities can be found at Østerklit Stokmølle and its shelter site, approximately 1.8 km west along the bike path, or at the Tverstedsøerne parking lot, an additional 800 meters west. If you need to “go to the toilet” by the shelter, dig a small hole in the forest floor for excrement and paper, and cover it thoroughly afterwards so nothing remains on the surface. Keep the place clean and tidy, and take your trash with you. The site is not accessible by car. The nearest parking is approximately 2.5 km west at Tverstedsøerne. The shelter was built with support from A.P. Møller Fonden.
