On Naturstyrelsen’s areas in the southern parts of Thorsø Bakker south of Øvre vej, free tenting is allowed. As the name suggests, the forest is located in very hilly terrain with high hills and deep valleys and ravines. The part open for free tenting is in the southern section, where the terrain is flatter and thus suitable for pitching tents. All of Thorsø Bakker is a so-called B-forest, meaning that permission is not granted for large events such as orienteering races, etc. This means that the forest is quieter and more peaceful than the forests near Silkeborg. Perfect for those who want a quiet forest trip! All overnight stays must follow the rules for free tenting.
