Flyvestation Værløse

Naturstyrelsen owns the green parts of the former military air base Flyvestation Værløse. Naturstyrelsen’s area covers 349 hectares and is now a recreational nature area with public access 24/7. The area no longer functions as an airfield. From its time as a military air base, the area contains a 3 km long asphalt-paved runway and several other asphalt sections. The runway and other asphalt sections are now a mecca for everyone on foot and on wheels, such as cyclists, roller skaters, and land sailors, who wish to experience and use the large, open natural area. From the time of the Danish Armed Forces, there are, among other things, 11 F16 shelters/hangars that can now be used for recreational purposes and as a base for outdoor activities. In the southwest and northeast parts of the air base, there is a diffuse network of F-16 hangars. The large hangars were used for parking F-16 jets. Today, the hangars are, as far as possible, rented out for activities, e.g., clubhouses and storage of equipment for associations. Hangar 46 is the National Museum’s open storage facility at Flyvestation Værløse. The hangar contains heavy military equipment from the period 1950 onwards. Here you can get up close to a Leopard battle tank, armored personnel carriers, recoilless rifles, howitzers, jeeps, and Nimbus motorcycles.
