About this spot

Fanø, as a barrier island in the Wadden Sea, is characterized by rows of dunes to the west, alternating with rows of wet dune hollows. The central part of the island is a more diffuse mosaic of dune heaths, small lakes, bogs, and plantations. On the back of the island, you will find salt meadows, or as they are called in the Wadden Sea area, marshlands. It is an important recreational forest area that, in the middle of the island, creates a significant variation from the otherwise very open nature with widespread heaths, dunes, and beaches. The plantation is a mosaic of dense forest sections of coniferous and deciduous trees on the ridges, mixed with open areas such as lakes, marshes, and meadows in the lower areas. You can stay overnight with a tent throughout the forest within the rules for free tenting. You can find the rules on Naturstyrelsen’s website. You will find the address at the link below.
