Alexander Grieghytten - the perfect rental cabin for larger groups! You’ll find it at the top of Bergsdalen - a 1.5-hour drive from Bergen. Road almost all the way. Inside, you can enjoy large common rooms, a modern kitchen, and a sauna. Outside there are hiking trails, swimming holes, fishing lakes, and groomed ski trails right outside the door! Facts about Alexander Grieghytten The cabin is located 615 meters above sea level in lush mountain landscape. Total number of sleeping places: 34 Number of beds for drop-in: 0. The cabin must be pre-booked. Rented as a single unit. School holidays: Suitable arrangements at the cabin, activities, and room rental. T-marked trail from Evanger, Bolstad. Vending and Gullhorgabu have connected routes. Easiest starting point: Holeberg parking lot, 400 meters, 10 min. steep gravel road. Hiking season: May-Oct. Ski season: Groomed trails nearby, depending on snowfall. The Alexander Grieghytten cabin is locked. It can be used all year round. It was newly renovated in 2020, is large and comfortable. There is no provision store; you bring all food yourself. 34 beds are distributed among 2- and 4-bed rooms, most with their own seating area. Otherwise, there is a large modern kitchen with two stoves, a dishwasher, cold storage, and a coffee maker. There is tableware for larger table settings. Large common areas, a dining hall, a fireplace lounge, an activity room, several toilets, shower rooms, and a sauna. Right outside the door, there are great hiking and activity opportunities both summer and winter, including T-marked trails and groomed tracks. Short distance to mountain peaks, swimming holes, fishing lakes, and other DNT cabins. Indoor facilities: The cabin is well-adapted for children. There are high chairs, a cot with bedding, some toys, and books. The activity room has a table tennis table (bring ball and racket) and a bouncy mattress. For persons with reduced mobility, an elevator is installed between the main floor and the basement. There is ample space in 2 bedrooms with bunk beds on the main floor. In the basement, there is an accessible toilet/bathroom. More information and photos in the Accessibility section. Outdoor facilities: Around the cabin, there are large fenced wooden decks. There are tables, benches, a fire pit, and grills. Several trees suitable for hammocks, climbing! There is a road to the cabin, but it is locked at the boom. If driving is necessary due to reduced mobility, please contact us in advance, and we will arrange it. Running electricity and water. Modern facilities. Mobile coverage at the cabin. It is mandatory to bring a sleeping sheet/sleeping bag/bedding set. Bring dish towels, cloths, towels for the kitchen, bathroom, and sauna. The cabin must be tidied, cleaned, and look nice when you leave it. New guests will arrive after you! Booking and payment Everyone who visits a DNT cabin must pay for their stay and food purchases. Alexander Grieghytten is primarily a rental cabin and deviates from standard terms. Terms are included with the order confirmation. Room booking Exceptions from renting the entire cabin are parts of school holidays. During winter and Easter holidays, there is room rental with a cabin host and activities organized by Barnas Turlag. In summer, there are mountain camps and other organized activities; follow the activity calendar, social media channels, and websites. During parts of the school summer holidays, there is room rental. Rooms are then booked for the desired number of days. There is a cabin host, but no organized activities. This is an offer suitable for everyone, not just families with children. The AG cabin is comfortable and a perfect stopover for cabin-to-cabin trips via Evanger/Bolstad, or to use as a base and explore the nearby nature. Day trips to other DNT cabins are also great from the AG cabin. Drop-in visits: Not possible at Alexander Grieghytten. Dog Dogs are welcome at most of BHT’s cabins in designated areas. Due to allergies, hygiene, and others’ fear of dogs, it is important that guidelines are followed. Guide dogs are exempt from housing restrictions and follow their handler. Alexander Grieghytten: 2 dog cages are placed in a separate wing on the 1st floor. The dog room has its own entrance. Dogs are not allowed in other rooms in the cabin. Dog overview other cabins. Dog guidelines: Guests with dogs must book and pay for a dog cage. Dog facilities are generally in the emergency shelter. Dogs are not allowed in common areas or ordinary bedrooms unless otherwise specified. The dog must sleep in a cage at night. Dogs must never be on sofas, beds, or use blankets or bedding from the cabin. The dog owner brings their own bowl for food/water. The cabin’s kitchen equipment must not be used. Clean thoroughly after yourself and the dog. No traces should be left, also applies after toilet visits. Be considerate. Your dog can cause fear in guests even if it is the world’s kindest. Always keep the dog on a leash at the cabin and follow applicable leash laws where you are. Groups Alexander Grieghytten is well-suited for school classes, businesses, associations, and private groups. High indoor comfort, many outdoor activity opportunities, and easy car access make it very popular. Fishing and activities Here you can bring your fishing rod to Hamlagrøvatnet and several fishing lakes on the way to Hamlagrøhornet. Fishing trips without a fishing rod to the stream just a stone’s throw east of the cabin. Great pools with brook trout. There are many bathing opportunities around the cabin, nice pools, and a small waterfall (dry at times). Along Hamlagrøvatnet, there are also numerous swimming spots. The area around Alexander Grieghytten offers a variety of hiking possibilities. Hamlagrøhornet, Mykkeltveitveten, and Krampane north of the cabin. Kjerringafjellet and Storliknausen south of the cabin are all great peak hiking destinations. The former is often used as an excursion for the youngest hikers (primary school age). In winter, there is easy and nice ski terrain from Hamlagrøosen and south towards Fugladalen. Hamlagrø løypelag grooms a circular trail just north of the cabin. There is a T-marked trail from Alexander Grieghytten down Rasdalen to Bolstadøyri and to Evanger; both are lovely day trips with a train back to Bergen. A day trip to Vending turisthytte and Gullhorgabu is a popular excursion both summer and winter, in welcoming terrain suitable for most people. There are limited stroller-friendly hiking opportunities in the area – one option could be to follow the military road from Småbrekkene, approximately 850m in towards Nedste-stølen, where there is a picnic area. Otherwise, Bergen og Hordaland Turlag has a Joelette hiking buggy available for loan, which opens up many possibilities for hiking on trails in the area. Contact Turlaget to arrange use of the hiking buggy. There is space for a lavvo (Sámi tent) in the cabin courtyard. Many have had their first outdoor overnight stay in the lavvo here, experiencing wilderness life with the knowledge that there is a safe cabin nearby. A stop at Bergsdalstunet by Lid is also recommended. Here, during the season, they have the best strawberries, and if you are lucky, it is open for coffee/food service! Alexander Grieghytten is centrally located in Bergsdalen/Kvammafjella and connects several of the 6 cabins in the area. Feel free to visit more.
