About this spot

Pleasant Koboltkoia is an idyllic place, a cabin with soul. Here there is a lovely outdoor area with benches and wonderful views. LOCATION: The cabin is located on a tip just below the northern Koboltgruvene in Modum. (Blaafarveværket’s mines). The cabin has great views over Holleia, Tyrifjorden, and Finnemarka. It is not permitted to park cars in Blaafarveværket’s parking lot after closing time. The parking lot for Koboltkoia outside the gate must be used. See also under “access”. EQUIPMENT: Koboltkoia has a large living room with an open kitchen solution. The cabin is equipped with everything you need for cooking and your stay; kitchenware and tableware. There are detergents, buckets, and cloths for washing dishes and cleaning after use. There is no electricity here, but gas burners for cooking, wood heating for warmth, and candles for lighting. The cabin has a total of 12 sleeping places distributed between one bedroom on the first floor with five sleeping places and a dormitory on the second floor. Remember a sheet sleeping bag, or bedding, to use over what is provided. You will find the outhouse in a separate building outside, where the woodshed is also located. The firewood in the cabin should only be used for heating the wood stove inside the cabin, not for outdoor fires. Firewood is expensive. PRACTICAL USE AND CLEANING OF THE CABIN: 1. Tableware and cutlery should be washed with dish soap and hot water. It is advisable to pour boiling water over the dishes at the end and let them air dry. Clean the washbasin after use with boiling water. 2. Dining table should be washed with soap and water after use. 3. Final cleaning upon departure: Thoroughly clean the kitchen, all touch surfaces, toilet, and floors. Make the beds. Clean the kitchen, including the dish brush, with soapy water. Clean the kitchen before cleaning other areas. Rinse floor cloths and rags well after use and hang them to dry. Cloths are replaced regularly. 4. Remember garbage bags. Wipe the outside of the garbage can if visibly soiled. Take your garbage home. DOGS: There is a dog crate in the hallway. Dogs are otherwise not permitted inside the cabin. BOOKING: Koboltkoia is rented out only in its entirety and must be pre-booked. You have access to the cabin from 2:00 PM on arrival day to 1:00 PM on departure day. WATER: Water can be fetched from the new water channel, which is under construction, with running water from Nordgruvetjern. It is located approximately 100 m further along the road past the water tap that was previously in use. A trolley and wheelbarrow are in the storage room, cans and buckets are in the cabin. It is also possible to fetch water from Nordgruvetjern (at the top of the channel, behind the dam). Water is potable, but feel free to bring drinking water. ACTIVITIES: Blaafarveværket/Koboltgruvene has marked cultural-historical trails to the mines and foundations of settlements in the area. Brochures are available at Gruvekroa (opening hours). A nice round trip for most people is the loop over Hoggvarden and Skuterudsetra. Tour suggestions can be found on UT.no. An overnight stay at Koboltkoia is also great to combine with experiences related to Blaafarværket: blaa.no. There is a signposted and blue-marked hiking trail over the ridge between Koboltkoia/Koboltgruvene and Haugfossen at Blaafarveværket. Approximately 12 km long (Haugfoss-stien). This trail passes several cultural-historical sites and fine viewpoints. See here for a detailed description and map. HISTORY: Read the cabin’s exciting history here.
