Middalsbu

The cabin is located at the very end of Middalen, right by the river that runs through the valley. Middalsbu was built after Valldalsvatnet was regulated and Valldalseter was submerged. The cabin is easily accessible as there is a road into Valldalen. From the parking lot, it’s a half-hour walk along the road. Middalsbu is an excellent starting point for the trip onto the western plateau by following the T-marked trail further to Hellevassbu. You can also reach Hardangervidda’s highest point from here, Sandfloegga, which at 1721 meters offers magnificent views. Equipment The cabin has all the equipment you need for cooking and a pleasant stay, such as full kitchenware, crockery, and bedding. In addition, you will find a good selection of food in the provisions room. There is no electricity at the cabin, but gas, wood-burning stove, and candles as light sources. Water is fetched from the nearest stream/lake. Guests arrange their own cooking, water fetching, dishwashing, floor cleaning, and general tidying of the cabin inside and out. Recipe booklet based on the provisions store In a new project, DNT has worked on developing a recipe booklet based on the provisions stores at self-service cabins. Payment Prices for accommodation and provisions We note that the cabin prices follow DNT Oslo and Omegn’s price list. Other DNT member associations may have different prices. Go to price list. Pre-booking via hyttebestilling.dnt It has never been easier to book a cabin trip at DNT cabins. Via hyttebestilling.dnt.no, you can easily see when the cabin is available, explore cabins on a map, and book a spot. DNT Oslo and Omegn offers a limited number of beds for booking. The remaining beds will be open for drop-in. Arrive at the cabin before 7 PM to secure your reserved bed; after 7 PM, the bed may be assigned to others, but your booking is still valid. Pay for food and accommodation in the DNT app At self-service and unstaffed DNT cabins, you can easily register and pay for accommodation and provisions in the DNT app. Have you pre-booked? Then the accommodation itself is already paid for – only register provisions in the app. Remember to download the app before you go on your trip! The app also works without coverage. Payment form You can also pay by filling out a payment form that you will find at the cabin. Upon departure, place the completed payment form in the safe and take the copy with you. We will then send you an invoice, but please note that a fee of NOK 50 will be incurred when using a payment form. Remember to fill in the correct price for accommodation based on age and member/non-member status, and all food you have taken. For your information, it is no longer possible to pay with cash at self-service cabins. Dogs It is not permitted to have dogs in common rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. There is a dog crate in the outbuilding/emergency cabin. Bring bedding for the dog if necessary; do not use the cabin’s bedding or blankets. Wild Reindeer The cabin is located in one of Norway’s 24 wild reindeer areas. Here you can also read about how DNT works with wild reindeer and travel. Wild reindeer are a vulnerable species and are extra sensitive to disturbances in the spring. Out of consideration for wild reindeer, DNT will close its cabins on Hardangervidda during the calving season. This applies to the area south of Rv 7 and north of E 134. In addition, the cabins will be closed from October 15th to March 1st, every winter. The cabins will be locked with a DNT key and are accessible in emergencies.
