About this spot
Fønhuskoia has long been DNT Ringerike’s flagship. A splendid large cabin on the last stage of Vassfarstien, which is DNT Ringerike’s own long-distance trail. From Fønhuskoia, one can continue to Røggjen, located in DNT Drammen’s area, or over to Merket and DNT Valdres. Alternatively, one can stay permanently at Fønhuskoia and go on splendid day trips, swim on the rocks below the cabin, fish, row, or go on excellent ski trips in the mountains during winter. Practical information. Location: Fønhuskoia is located by the lake Strøen in Sør-Aurdal municipality, on the Valdres side in the upper part of Vassfaret. Equipment: Fønhuskoia is 111 sqm with 4 bedrooms, plus a loft and possibilities for overnight stays in the living room. In total, there are 21 beds inside the cabin and 3 beds in the ‘stabbur’ (storehouse) located in the yard. Fønhuskoia is equipped with a solar power system with lights in all rooms. The ‘stabbur’/emergency hut is 24 sqm and has two rooms on the ground floor. Here, there is a Fønhus exhibition in old style in the north-facing room (Tverrvassætra), and old-style overnight accommodation for three people in the south-facing room (Tjuvhanshula). Fønhuskoia has a kitchen with a gas stove, a living room with a wood-burning stove, and 2 splendid washrooms. A safe and good water tap is located in the yard right in front of the cabin’s entrance. This can also be used in winter. There is a large established network of trails and tracks in the Vassfar area with many possibilities. It is suitable for hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, swimming, cycling, and canoeing. In Vassfaret, there are many good fishing lakes, streams, and rivers. Fishing licenses can be bought at Joker in Hedalen, and in dedicated fishing license boxes along several of the main roads into the area. The nearest fishing lake is 50 meters from Fønhuskoia; the lake is called Strøen and is the uppermost and largest lake in Vassfaret. Winter: Snowmobile tracks are often made on the lake, inviting nice ski trips.
