Ramsjøhytta

Ramsjøhytta is a self-service cabin located by Ramsjøen, right next to the border of Skarvan og Roltdalen nasjonalpark. The modern main cabin was completed in 2022 and contributes to enhancing the experience of magnificent mountain nature with “view to insight” as its guiding principle. Location Ramsjøhytta is openly situated at the river mouth of Ramsjøen with views over the lake and the Fongen massif and far to the east, the Syl massif. Sylan and Jämtlandsfjällen are a shared mountain hiking area for Norwegians and Swedes. Here you can hike day after day in a continuous network of cabins and trails that stretches for miles into the mountains on both sides of the border. The Syl massif itself lies like a gigantic border stone centrally in this mid-Scandinavian mountain realm. Rooms The new main cabin has 22 beds. In the emergency cabin, there are 6 beds, plus a dedicated dog section with 6 beds and its own kitchen/living room. Equipment Outhouse, wood-burning stove, fishing, booking, drying room, electricity, boat rental, tent pitch. There is no mobile coverage at the cabin, but if you walk, for example, a couple of hundred meters south, behind the emergency cabin, you can get coverage. Nature conservation In Sylan, a part of the vulnerable mountain nature has special protection through the establishment of landscape protection areas and national parks, and Ramsjøhytta is located by Skarvan og Roltdalen Nasjonalpark. This means that as a guest in these areas, you should have familiarized yourself with the rules that apply to travel here and be aware of them when moving into vulnerable areas. In addition to specially protected areas, we are also fortunate to have Sami reindeer husbandry in the area. As a guest in the reindeer’s realm, you must exercise caution and not disturb these magnificent animals. Due to calving in the area, Ramsjøhytta will be closed for booking in the spring. Here are some tips to take with you: Show consideration for animal and plant life. Follow marked paths and trails. Bring your dog on hikes, but remember it must be on a leash. Stay still if you see reindeer, so they can move away. Do not try to approach them for photography. The main cabin is closed for winter from January 1st to March 20th. During calving season in May and June, reindeer are extra vulnerable and must not be disturbed. Therefore, it will not be possible to book stays from April 25th to June 7th, inclusive. We recommend planning your trip to other mountain areas during this period. Booking and payment This year you can choose whether to pre-book a spot or come as a drop-in guest at the TT cabins. Click here to book a spot at Ramsjøhytta. When pre-booking, you pay for the stay directly in the booking. For drop-ins, you can pay with the payment app “DNT Hyttebetaling”. At TT’s cabins, we use a sleeping bag liner or brought-along bedding (pillowcase, duvet cover, and sheet). Sleeping bags are not permitted indoors due to cleanliness and bed bug issues. More info can be found here. DNT membership As a member of Trondhjems Turistforening, you gain access to, and member prices at, DNT’s more than 560 tourist cabins throughout Norway. The member discount is approximately 30%. The cabin must be unlocked with a DNT key, and you must be a member to have a key. Ramsjøhytta is also part of Signa-TUR Norge på tvers. History A rented 4-bed self-service quarter was established in 1957. Its own cabin was completed in 1967. After the “new cabin” with 8 beds took over from the 4-bed cabin on the other side of the river mouth, it became increasingly common to split the route between Schulzhytta (30 beds) and Storerikvollen (65 beds) in two. The risk of ending up at an overcrowded Ramsjøhytta helped to reduce westward traffic from Storerikvollen. Group trips of 12 people during Easter have many times pushed the capacity limits at Ramsjøhytta. Nevertheless, frost heave problems with the old cabin’s pillar foundations were the reason construction work began as early as 1983, just 16 years after the cabin was put into use. Without these problems, the tourist association’s economy likely would not have allowed any expansion. Work began in early July 1983, and the cabin was closed to hikers and skiers until Easter 1984. The main cabin was expanded to its current size while the old cabin was refoundationed, redecorated, and improved, including new windows, insulated roof, and new exterior cladding. In 2013/14, a new emergency cabin and a new outbuilding were constructed, and in 2022, a new main cabin was completed. This cabin has received support from the surplus generated by Norsk Tipping’s gaming funds.
