Volunteer work is planned at Vatnane from June 26-28. This weekend, it would be good if you found another cabin alternative so the volunteer crew can have good working conditions. Vatnane tourist cabin - surrounded by Sognefjorden and Stølsheimen, is a beautiful piece of Western Norway. Fjord and mountains in contrast to tranquil mountain farm idyll. You reach the cabin steeply up from the fjord or on an unmarked trail from one of the DNT cabins in the area. Facts about Vatnane tourist cabin: The cabin is located 898 meters above sea level in lush mountain terrain. Total number of sleeping places: 6 Number of beds available for booking: 6 Number of beds for drop-in: 0 No T-marked trails to the cabin. Easiest starting point: Tenne by Arnafjord, 10 meters above sea level. 4 km. steep, good unmarked trail. Hiking season: June - Oct. Ski season: Not recommended in winter. Advance booking at Vatnane is recommended. The Vatnane cabin is unlocked and accessible all year round. The cabin does not have pantry supplies, so you must bring all your own food. The cabin is equipped with what you need for cooking and your stay: kitchenware, tableware, gas, firewood, and candles. There are duvets, pillows, and blankets. Sleeping places are distributed among one room with a bunk bed and the common room with 4 beds distributed among 2 bunk beds. A sleeping sheet, own bed linen, or sleeping bag is mandatory. No running water or electricity. Hob with 3 gas burners for cooking, wood-burning stove for heating, outhouse. The cabin does not have electricity. No possibility for mobile charging. There is no mobile coverage at the cabin, but nearby peaks may provide coverage. The cabin must be tidied, cleaned, and left neat when you depart. Dog Dogs are welcome at most BHT cabins in designated areas. Due to allergies, hygiene, and others’ fear of dogs, it is important that dog guidelines are followed. Guide dogs are exempt from housing restrictions and follow their owner. Vatnane: 1 dog crate in the kitchen. Owner sleeps in an adjacent room. Allergy sufferers must be aware of the placement of dog crates in common areas. Dogs must only be in the kitchen. Dog overview for other cabins. Dog guidelines: Guests with dogs must book a dog crate. The dog sleeps there at night. Dog facilities are generally in the emergency cabin, with limited access to rooms other than where the dog crate is located. See the overview for each cabin. Dogs must not be on sofas, beds, use blankets or bed linen from the cabin. Bring your own bowl, blanket, and towel. Do not use equipment belonging to the cabin. Clean up well after the dog - also after toilet visits. Always keep the dog on a leash at the cabin and follow applicable leash laws. Be considerate. Your dog can cause fear in others even if it is the world’s kindest. Groups Vatnane is not suitable for larger groups as the cabin is small and only has 6 beds. Fishing and activities There are good fishing lakes in the area. Fishing license available at the cabin. An extra night is recommended as there are many nice day trip destinations from Vatnane. Fagerdalsnipi 1245 meters above sea level, Einebærfjell, Dagvatnet, and the mountain farms Hest and Rosete. On the north side of Vatnavatni 812 meters above sea level, you get spectacular views of Finnafjorden and the roadless farms Finden and Finnabotnen, now abandoned. More trip suggestions or overnight stays? Bergen and Hordaland manages several cabins in Stølsheimen. Routes to Vatnane None of the routes to Vatnane are marked. The standard varies. The most used is the trail up from Tenne/Arnafjord. Alternatives from Nese/Arnafjord, Åsedalen, and Solrenningen are more demanding. No markings and less used. Here you must pay close attention and read the terrain to stay on the trail. There are no bridges over rivers. With heavy snowmelt/rain, this may mean wading to cross! Tenne/Arnafjord - Vatnane - summer route - red grading. Starting point for the most used trail up to Vatnane. Easily recognizable by two gravel pits. Drive past the first, and further by a small spruce grove. Then turn sharply left, by an info board and forest road. Parking is possible here. Follow the forest road to the Vatnane sign (further up along the river). From here, it climbs rapidly. The trail winds steeply up through the forest, which gradually transitions into thicket and heather. You see the fjord, roaring waterfalls, and bubbling streams. When you pass 800 meters above sea level, you are at Vatnavatni. Here you must cross a riverbed that can be challenging during snowmelt and heavy rainfall. Feel free to bring poles for extra safety. Good trail for the last kilometer up to the cabin. On the return, it is possible to plan the trip via Rosete. Then follow the trail in a northerly direction from the cabin, turn off down towards Rosete (local cairn marking), a clear and good trail from Rosete down to Arnafjord. Round trip: Tenne - Vatnane - Rosete - Arnafjord Map of the area DNT always recommends bringing a physical map and compass on your trip. Mobile coverage varies in the mountains. Weather and trail conditions change quickly. Markings can disappear under snow and in fog. Follow a packing list adapted to the season.
