Location Reinbukkelvhytta is located far north on Finnmarksvidda in Alta municipality along the old postal route between Alta and Karasjok. The fastest access is via a T-marked route from Østerelvdalen. The cabin is marked on the new map in the Norges-series, 10175 Øvre Stabbursdalen. Map reference 098534. In winter, Alta turlag marks the ski trail to the cabin with branches. The cabin is often used as an intermediate station for those following Postruta further towards Bojobæski. Rooms The cabin is simply furnished, has two beds with mattresses. There is firewood in the cabin and heating in the stove. One must bring a sleeping bag, matches, candles, and food for overnight stays. Its status as an emergency shelter means that it is not equipped for ordinary overnight stays, and you will not find cooking equipment. There is no emergency cabin provided as an escape route. The cabin can be used as an emergency shelter for those who need it and cannot be pre-booked. Equipment The cabin has firewood for heating, but no gas or other equipment. Water Water is fetched from the stream. In winter, you can melt snow. Dogs Dogs are not allowed inside the cabin. There are dog crates in the outer hallway and hooks for tethering outdoor dogs by the cabin wall. Nature Conservation Remember to take all your trash back with you. Show consideration for reindeer herding, which uses the area in spring and autumn. Dogs must be on a leash. Booking and Payment The cabin cannot be pre-booked. The price for overnight stays for DNT members is NOK 250, and non-members NOK 500. Youth aged 13-25 who are members pay NOK 125, non-members NOK 250. Children aged 4-12 who are members stay for free, non-members NOK 125. Ages 0-3 stay for free. Day trip visits cost NOK 50. We hope you pay using Vipps to no. 101780. If you live in Alta, Loppa, Karasjok, or Kautokeino, you automatically become part of our local team, and parts of the membership fee are returned and used for the hiking association’s work. Activities The cabin is located on the trail to Postruta - the Historic Hiking Route across Finnmarksvidda. Mail was transported by horse, taking approximately 5 days for the journey between Alta and Karasjok. In winter, AOT marks the ski trail to the cabin with branches. You can start from the parking area on the construction road in Nedre Stilla, and it is 8 km to walk to the cabin. You can also drive further to a parking lot just south of Sombybrua. From there, it is 6 km to the cabin. A circular trail via Stilladalen is 22 km. History and Other The cabin is an old slate hut that was moved from Raipas to the north side of Golggotjohka - Reinbukkelva in 1982. The cabin has been extended several times and has also been raised to gain more ceiling height. The last restoration took place in 2015, and in 2023, a woodshed was added.
