About this spot

Ringkolltoppen was donated to DNT Ringerike by SpareBank 1-stiftelsen Ringerike in spring 2024. The cabin has a fantastic location up on Ringkolltoppen (702 meters above sea level), with views in all directions. Here you can wake up to a sunrise and follow the sun with a 360-degree view, before it sets again in the evening. In winter, ski trails pass right by the cabin door, and you can go for miles-long ski tours in Nordmarka and on Krokskogen. In summer, you can hike along blue-marked routes. Ringkolltoppen has been renovated several times by previous owners; it has a kitchen, a cozy living room nook, and three bedrooms with a total of 11 sleeping places. Plus a cozy twelfth sleeping spot under the stairs, which is perfect for children (this cannot be pre-booked). The cabin has electricity, wood heating, and a dog room. The cabin is locked with a DNT key and can be used all year round. Location The cabin is located in the middle of Ringkolltoppen, 702 meters above sea level. Equipment There is electricity at Ringkolltoppen. The cabin is equipped with an electric stove with 4 hobs for cooking, an oven, a wood-burning stove for heating, a refrigerator, and otherwise basic equipment for cooking and dishwashing. The firewood in the cabin should only be used for heating in the wood-burning stoves, not for outdoor bonfires. The cabin has duvets and pillows, but a sleeping bag liner or your own bedding is mandatory. It is not permitted to use a sleeping bag! You must bring all your own food, and you must take any leftovers back with you. No food should ever be left in the cabin. The cabin has candles and toilet paper, but feel free to bring some extra. The cabin has electric heating, and we request that the panel heaters be set to 10 degrees Celsius when you leave. Use electricity and the wood-burning stove moderately; wear a wool sweater and slippers instead of overheating! (then we’ll be happy). Water There is a water pump outside the cabin. This was new in winter 2025 and was donated by Sparebank 1-stiftelsen Ringerike. The water pump is electric, and you press the green button for 10 seconds until water starts flowing. There are buckets inside marked “drinking water” and these should only be used for that purpose. The water might taste a bit like dynamite, as we had to blast to get water. This is not dangerous. There is also a water pump in the kitchen which is also electric; this water comes from a cistern under the cabin and is water that drains from the roof. This is therefore only non-potable water and should not be drunk. Room distribution The cabin has 4 rooms with a total of 11 beds (+ one bed bench) and 3 dog crates. The rooms have been named Turisten, Kolltjern, Øyangen, and Røstjern. Røstjern is upstairs and consists of 1 bunk bed and 2 single beds; this is divided into bunk bed 1 and 2, and single bed 3 and 4. Øyangen is also on the second floor and consists of a double bed, which is double bed 1 and 2. Turisten is downstairs and also consists of a double bed, which is also double bed 1 and 2. This double bed is slightly narrower than the one in Øyangen. The dog room we have called Krokskogen, there are 3 beds there. There is double bed 1 and 2, and also an upper bunk on one wall. The room has 3 dog crates. If you bring a dog, you must pre-book a dog crate, and the dog must stay in the crate throughout the stay. The bed bench is in the living room under the stairs to the second floor. This is a drop-in bed and cannot be pre-booked. It is also a bit short and best suited for children. But children will love this one! This cannot be pre-booked and payment for it is made via Vipps or DNT’s Cabin Payment app. Quiet It is common in DNT to have quiet hours at 11:00 PM. If there are children in the party, it’s good to go to bed even earlier, so you can get out on your trip early! Cleaning Each individual must ensure cleaning themselves. There is a vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies in the cabin. Use water from the cistern or the pump outside in the yard. The main rule is that you should leave the cabin in the condition you would wish to find it, and preferably a little better than when you arrived. Never leave food behind! Outdoor toilet There is an indoor outdoor toilet. You will find it when you go left from the entrance door and through the wood shed. There is a dedicated washing bucket, spray, and paper for cleaning the toilet. If everyone uses the spray after toilet visits and cleans a bit thoroughly with water upon departure, the toilet will always be more pleasant for everyone. Carry in a bucket for handwashing inside the toilet; there is a separate water bucket for the toilet there, and feel free to bring your own hand towel that you take home with you. Laundry room Ringkolltoppen has a quite large laundry room. This room is for handwashing, body washing, and changing. You will also find cleaning supplies for washing the cabin. Even a vacuum cleaner is here. There are 2 tall cupboards on one wall; here the cabin managers keep their equipment, and we ask that these cupboards not be touched. Feel free to bring your own towel for handwashing, which you take home with you when you leave. Eventually, we will arrange it so that the water in the basin drains out, but for now, it drains into a bucket placed in the cabinet under the sink and must be emptied regularly. If you don’t empty it, it will overflow, and you will get water inside the entire cabinet. Please pay close attention to this. Drying room Ringkolltoppen has a large drying room/wardrobe with underfloor heating; you can turn this up when you arrive to ensure good drying during your stay, but turn it down a bit when you leave. Swimming It is possible to go down to Kolltjern for a swim. Here there is a small jetty you can swim from; this jetty is shared by the cabins in the area. You can also walk to Store Røstjern, which is a nice bathing lake a few kilometers away, or drive, walk, or cycle down to Øyangen. Ski trails Prepared trails pass right by Ringkolltoppen. Here you can go for miles-long ski tours in Nordmarka and on Krokskogen. Dog This summer we completed the dog room and we have named this room Krokskogen. This room is located just inside the entrance door. Here are 3 dog crates and these must be booked together with the beds. Those without a dog can, of course, also book the dog room, but we ask that other rooms be used first if you do not have a dog. The dog must be accustomed to sleeping in a crate and not be a nuisance to other guests, and it must remain in the dog room throughout the stay. Unused dog crates can be folded and placed under the bed if you wish. One dog crate can certainly be left out. Fishing There is no fishing water right by Ringkolltoppen, naturally, but there are fishing waters if you walk a bit. You must purchase a fishing license; see: Fiskevannet Øyangen by Ringkollen. inatur.no Bicycle There are great cycling opportunities on Ringkollen, but it is not suitable for bicycles up to Ringkolltoppen. But you can lock your bikes down by Ringkollstua and walk up. Map Always remember a map and compass on your trip. Ringkolltoppen can be found on the hiking map Oslo Nordmark summer and winter 1:50 000 and Oslo Nordmark north 1:25 000. A map called Nordmarka nord, which is 1:20 000, has also been released.
