BT-hytten

BT-hytten - a lovely hideaway in the mountains by Mjølfjell. Located close to Raundalsryggen, the fish-rich lake Vesete, and the historical trade route between Hardanger and the Bergen Line. The cabin is popular both summer and winter. It is well T-marked and there are several trails in the area, but in winter you must find your own way with the help of a map and compass. Facts about BT-hytten: The cabin is located 873 meters above sea level, in the transition between forest and high mountain terrain. Easiest starting point: Mjølfjell station 627 meters above sea level. 4.6 km. on a good trail. Summer season: June-Oct. Skiing season: Possible all winter, alternative route, not marked with stakes. Recommended pre-booking at BT-hytten. The cabin BT-hytten is unlocked and available all year. The cabin does not have provisions, so you must bring all your own food. The cabin is equipped with everything you need for cooking and your stay: kitchen utensils, tableware, gas, wood, and candles. There are duvets, pillows, and blankets. A sleeping bag liner, your own bedding, or a sleeping bag is mandatory. The sleeping places are in the same room, divided into 2 double beds and 2 single beds. Sofa bed with possible sleeping space for two in the living room. No electricity or running water. Gas stove for cooking, wood-burning stove for heating, outdoor toilet. The cabin has solar power for basic lighting, candles. Possibility for mobile charging. There is no mobile coverage at the cabin, but possibly a little further up the hillside behind the cabin with the Telenor network. Rowboat for fishing in Vesetvatn during summer season. Mandatory to bring your own sleeping bag liner/sleeping bag/bedding set. The cabin must be tidied, cleaned, and look nice when you leave it. Booking and Payment Everyone visiting a DNT cabin must pay. Day visits, overnight stays, food, and other services. Prices 2026. Pre-booking - online payment Book accommodation at hyttebestilling.dnt.no. Pre-booking is recommended during high season, for cabins with few beds, and for groups. Cabins rented out as a unit or with room-only booking must be pre-booked to gain access. An electronic receipt will be sent upon pre-booking. No pre-booking, use of the cabin, food, and other services - DNT app On self-service and unstaffed DNT cabins, you register and pay for accommodation, day/tent visits, food, and other services in the DNT app. Have you pre-booked? Then the accommodation itself is already paid for – only register food in the app. Remember to download the app before you go on your trip! The app also works without reception. Dogs Dogs are welcome at most of BHT’s cabins, in designated areas. Due to allergies, hygiene, and others’ fear of dogs, it is important that guidelines for dogs are followed. Guide dogs are exempt from housing rules and stay with their owner. BT-hytten: There is a dog crate placed in a cold cellar under the cabin. No possibility for the owner to stay overnight with the dog. Not heated and of simple standard. Dogs are not allowed inside the cabin. Dog overview for other cabins. Dog guidelines: Guests with dogs must book a dog crate. The dog sleeps there at night. Dog accommodation is generally in an emergency shelter, with limited access to rooms other than where the dog crate is located. See the overview for each cabin. Dogs are not allowed on sofas, beds, or to use blankets or bedding from the cabin. Bring your own bowl, blanket, and towel. Do not use equipment belonging to the cabin. Clean and wash thoroughly after the dog - also after toilet visits. Always keep your dog on a leash at the cabin and follow applicable leash laws. Be considerate. Your dog can cause fear in others, even if it is the world’s kindest. Groups BT-hytten is not suitable for larger groups as the cabin is small and only has 6 sleeping places. Fishing and Activities The cabin is well suited for multiple overnight stays. At Vesetvatnet, a boat is available for guests during the summer season, locked with a DNT key. Oars, oarlocks, and life jackets can be found in the cellar under the cabin. Fishing with rod and net is permitted. You do not need a fishing license. Bring your own net and fishing equipment if you plan to use it. Skorafjellet, Raundalsryggen, Slondalen, and Fallet are nice hiking destinations of varying difficulty. There are popular summit hikes in winter within close proximity to the cabin. Near the trail along Vesetevatnet, there are nice bathing pools and enormous blueberry bushes in season. Routes to BT-hytten The routes to BT-hytten are T-marked from Sotenos (Ulvik) and Mjølfjell. The standard is good. The most used is the trail up from Mjølfjell. It is the shortest and accessible by train and road. The alternative from Sotenos is longer and cannot be reached by public transport, a 9 km road from Ulvik. Mjølfjell station - BT-hytten - summer route - blue grading The most common route to the cabin. 400 meters elevation, 4.5 km, and a good 2 hours in varied terrain to the cabin. At the start of the trail, you cross a summer bridge over Raundalselven. The bridge is set up for the 2026 season. After Oct. 1st and in winter, you must choose to cross Raundalselven at Austmannaholen, just under 2 kilometers southwest of Mjølfjell train station. From there, you can follow the path along the river (direction Urlandsstølen) until you meet the T-marked trail. Here there are often scooter tracks in winter. Weather and trail conditions change quickly. Markings can disappear under snow and in fog. Follow the packing list adapted to the season.
