Skolla is located down in the river valley, but with a short path up to the treeless mountain. The versatility of the area and easy access make the cabin excellently suited for arrangements with many activities. LOCATION: Skolla is located in Åstdalen in Ringsaker municipality, right by Øvre Åstbru. The cabin is located by an all-year road from Brumunddal, while Birkebeinerveien from Sjusjøen to Østerdalen is closed in winter. EQUIPMENT: New from June 2026; The beds have duvets, pillows, and blankets, but everyone must use their own sleeping sheet or bedding (pillowcase, duvet cover, and sheet). Here there are 6 beds, kitchen equipment, and cooking facilities, access to an outdoor toilet and firewood. The room closest to the road in the “stable” is equipped as an unstaffed cabin and locked with DNT’s standard key. A solar panel system was installed in 2022. Inside, there are lights above the kitchen counter and table, and reading lights are installed by 4 of 6 beds. Mobile phone charging is also included. ACTIVITIES: Here there are opportunities for active outdoor life with mountain hikes, ski and winter tours (groomed ski trail approximately 500 meters away, check www.skisporet.no and Åstdalen turløyper), and the river Åsta flows right past with possibilities for fishing grayling and trout. Fishing rules and purchase of fishing license: http://www.rjfo.no/fiske/. All fishing is prohibited in the period September 15th – October 15th. Ringsaker o-klubb has surveyed a new orienteering map of the area here - contact us if you wish to use it. Hiking suggestions: Øyungshytta - Skolla, Skolla - Hornsjø. Skolla is also very well located for bike tours in Åstdalen and northwest towards Øyer, west along Birkebeinervegen (up Rosinbakkene etc.) to Sjusjøen or east towards Østerdalen. DOGS: You can bring dogs to all HHT cabins, but this cabin has no special facilities for dogs. We ask dog owners to show consideration for any other visitors. BOOKING AND PAYMENT: At HHT’s cabins, all beds can be booked in advance, but hikers who have not booked may arrive. If you have not booked and paid in advance, you can pay with the DNT app. Pay for accommodation in the DNT app. At self-service and unstaffed DNT cabins, you can easily register and pay for accommodation in the DNT app. Remember to download the app before your trip! The cabin is locked with a DNT key. Remember that at least one person in your party must be a member to deposit for a key. If you have a DNT key, you cannot be turned away from the cabin. Skolla campsite is Hamar og Hedemarken Turistforening’s (HHT) second campsite in Åstdalen (in addition to Åkersætra) and is especially intended for youth groups with outdoor activities, but is suitable for all types of groups.
