About this spot
Jonstølen - a summit hike paradise both summer and winter! Welcome to Jonstølen, tourist association cabin number 501! Fantastic mountain experiences await right outside the cabin door. Snønuten is a popular hiking destination both summer and winter. Location Jonstølen is located in the beautiful moorlands southeast of Suldalsvatnet. Here it lies in the middle of Suldal’s summer farm landscape, serving as a link between Krossvatn/Stranddalen in the south and Bleskestadmoen in the north. About the cabin Total sleeping capacity: 36 Number of beds available for booking: 23 Jonstølen is self-service, meaning it has a provisions store/food storage. This can be found in the main cabin. Overview and prices of provisions can be found here. The cabin is unlocked. The cabin is equipped with everything you need for cooking and your stay: kitchenware, crockery, duvets, and pillows. You must bring your own bed linen set or sleeping sheet/liner. There is solar power and mobile charging facilities, gas for cooking, wood burning, and candles. As a guest, you are responsible for your own cooking, fetching water, washing dishes, cleaning floors, and tidying the cabin. Thank you for helping to keep the cabin spotless for the next guest! Mobile coverage is available northeast of the cabin on the west side of Raudnuten. For our self-service and unstaffed cabins, you must pay extra for the use of fuel. Activities There are many great hiking opportunities around the cabin. In winter, the area is well suited for summit tours in both steep and less steep terrain. Of the summit tours, Snønuten (1606 masl) is the most impressive. A detour to the mica quarry 4 km west of the cabin is also recommended. Read more about hiking opportunities in Stavanger Turistforening’s yearbook 2019, Hiking Guide Ryfylkeheiene. Dogs DNT Stavanger og omegn actively works to accommodate dogs at as many cabins as possible. Jonstølen has a separate dog room with its own entrance. Here there are five beds, a wood stove, and two dog crates. For reasons of allergy, hygiene, and potentially others’ relationship with dogs, it is important that you do not bring your dog into other common areas of the cabin, other than where it is accommodated. Thank you for also cleaning up after both yourself and your dog upon departure, so it will be pleasant for the next guest. All necessary information about bringing dogs to the tourist cabins, as well as which of DNT Stavanger og omegn’s cabins are adapted for dogs, can be found here. History Jonstølen is called “The optimal self-service cabin,” and rightly so. The modern and innovative main lodge incorporates the best from over 100 years of cabin building managed by DNT Stavanger og omegn. The cabin building itself is a sight to behold: The structure meanders over the freestanding rock slab it is built on, the cabin walls are angled to provide panoramic views both from outside and within, even the staircase is angled like an amphitheater facing magnificent nature. Welcome, whether you wish to stay overnight or just come for a day trip. This cabin has received support from the surplus of gaming funds from Norsk Tipping.
