Local trail report/notice board for Åmotdalshytta: Important message 1: The cabin has sustained significant damage as a result of extreme weather “Amy”. The roof over the entrance and the roof over the stone hut have significant damage. The stone hut cannot be used, but overnight stays are possible in the main cabin. The stove in the living room/common room in the main cabin is in use. Stoves in the bedrooms in the main cabin must not be used. The annex/emergency hut is undamaged. Important message 2: Due to, among other things, the damage Åmotdalshytta sustained during extreme weather Amy, extensive work will be carried out both indoors and outdoors at the main cabin in the period from June 20, 2026, to mid-August 2026. The work may cause practical challenges for guests staying overnight at the cabin during this period, for example, it may be necessary to change rooms or beds due to the renovation work. A dedicated cabin warden will be present to coordinate activities. Work will take place (approx.) between 9 AM and 6 PM daily. We ask all visitors to show understanding and follow instructions from the cabin warden. Booking and payment for accommodation and provisions: It is now possible to book/reserve a bed at our cabins. Approx. half of the bed capacity is allocated for this at the cabin. Bed reservations can be made via each cabin on UT.no or on DNT hyttebestilling. Provisions are paid for using the new DNT app. It is important to note that bed reservations are only valid until 7:00 PM on the day you/your group have booked. If you wish to pay after your stay, use the new DNT app. This can be downloaded from Play Store or App Store. Before your trip, we recommend the checklist. If you encounter difficulties with payment/using the payment app, you will find information on how to contact us at the cabin. Location: Åmotdalshytta is centrally located in Dovrefjell, on the shore of Åmotdalsvatnet, just northwest of Snøhetta. Here are day-trip opportunities in fantastic terrain in all directions. To the east are Snøheim and Reinheim; to the north, you will find Dindalshytta, Loennechenbua, and Gammelsetra, while Grøvudalshytta is located to the northwest. There is also a marked route from Skamsdalen in the south and Snøheimvegen east of Snøhetta. The cabin was first built in 1922 as a small stone hut. A larger cabin was built in 1953 (restored in 1980) and is connected to the stone hut by a passageway. An emergency hut/annex with an outhouse and tool/wood storage was built in 1983. Wild Reindeer: The cabin is located in one of Norway’s 24 wild reindeer areas. Here you can learn more about how to show consideration for wild reindeer when you are in the mountains. The cabin is closed during the calving period April 6, 2026 - June 18, 2026 Registration in visitor log/payment for stay: Upon arrival at the cabin, you sign in the visitor log and settle up before departure. Feel free to use DNT’s payment app! With DNT Cabin Payment on your mobile, your cabin-to-cabin trip becomes even easier! The app also works at cabins without mobile coverage - you then register your purchases offline at the cabin and pay via the app on your mobile when you get coverage. The DNT key: Some of our cabins are locked with a DNT key. We have several points of sale for the key; see overview and information on our website (scroll down a bit) here. If you land by plane at Kvernberget, you can pay for the key in advance and receive a code for the key box we have there. Åmotdalshytta is open, i.e., not locked with a DNT key. Provisions: At the cabin, you will always find a good selection of canned goods and dinner accessories, and dry goods for breakfast and packed lunches. Biscuits and chocolate for coffee are also in the assortment. About the cabin: The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob and everything you need to prepare and serve food. Reserve a bed at Åmotdalshytta here: DNT hyttebestilling Power/mobile: The cabin has 12V power for lighting and charging possibilities. No mobile coverage. Regarding mobile charging, we sometimes experience some technical challenges. We therefore recommend a power bank as a backup. Beds/accommodation: There are 34 sleeping places at the cabin, 24 sleeping places in the main cabin, and 8 sleeping places in the annex. The room in the annex is a dog room and has one permanent dog crate, but a second dog crate can also be used in this room. At KNT’s cabins, we use a sleeping sheet/liner or brought-in bed linen (pillowcase, duvet cover, and sheet). Sleeping bags are not permitted inside the cabins due to cleanliness and bed bug issues. Dogs: Accommodation for dogs is provided in the emergency hut/annex. Dogs must not be in the room unsupervised and must not be in other common areas. This is to consider allergy sufferers. We ask that this be respected. Water: Water is fetched from the river just east of the cabin. Garbage/Waste: If possible, take garbage/waste back from your trip. Information on garbage/waste disposal can be found in the information binder at the cabin. Tents: Tenting is not accommodated. If you are tenting, remember to pay for day visits/tents, and that tents should be placed a good distance from the cabin. For stays at the cabin after 6 PM, regular overnight accommodation must be paid for. Fishing: There is abundant trout fishing in the waters around Åmotdalshytta.
