Gaudland

Gaudland - the farm light! At the abandoned smallholding, farm operations have been replaced by active outdoor life for all ages. Here you can swim, paddle, fish, and engage in orienteering. The cabin is easily accessible and well-suited for school classes or larger groups. Location Gaudland is idyllically situated just above Gaudlandsvatnet in Sokndal municipality in Dalane. Here there are sheep pastures on all sides, beautiful deciduous forest, and exciting hiking terrain in typical rugged Dalane landscape. Remember to close all gates! About the cabin Gaudland is a rental cabin where you book the entire cabin. It has electricity and running water with a shower and toilet. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher. There is no food storage at this cabin. The cabin has 18 beds distributed across 5 rooms. In addition, there are 12 loose mattresses (no duvets and pillows for these). There is also a possibility for up to 8 people to sleep in the outbuilding. There is no stove here. If you are going to sleep in the outbuilding, it is important to bring a sleeping bag and sleeping pad to lie on a rough wooden floor. The outbuilding has a small loft with space for 2 people, while the floor area has space for up to 6 people. There are also hooks for hammocks here. When renting Gaudland, you can freely use two rowboats and four canoes. Oars and vests are in the basement. The firewood in the basement can also be used for heating the indoor wood stove. The property is part of a free-to-use area accessible to everyone, but for overnight stays or camping, you must set up at least 150 meters from the houses. This is out of consideration for those who may have rented the house at Gaudland. The toilet in the outbuilding is open to everyone using the property. For campers or outdoor food serving, it is possible to use the outbuilding/chicken coop. This is primarily reserved for those who have rented the facility. If you want to convert the outbuilding/chicken coop into a dining area, you must bring your own tables and chairs. There is also a timber-framed building, used as a barbecue hut. It is important that you remove the ashes after use. Activities Canoes and rowboats are free for cabin guests to use. There is also a football field just outside the cabin, as well as plenty of benches both under cover and outdoors. Several hiking trails are marked from Gaudland, including to Rekedal (approx. 6-7 km), from Gaudland to Spjotevatn (approx. 3 km one way), and a circular trail at Gaudland (approx. 3-4 km). A circular trail is also marked from Barstad to Elvestraum and over Dufjell (approx. 7-8 km). The tours are described in STF’s book ‘125 Selected Tours’. Remember to keep dogs on a leash as the entire area is a grazing ground for livestock. Gaudland mini-round trip: The trip is only 444 m long, and the total elevation gain is only 42 m. This is a nice stroll that starts through the gate behind the outbuilding, goes past the ruins of a mill house, and continues diagonally up the hill behind the mill house ruins to a path that goes down outside the stone fence around Gaudland. Gunnarskarsheio round trip: The trip is 3.7 km. Allow 1-2 hours without a break. The trip begins right outside the gate at Gaudland. After a stretch in the lush and forested Spjotedalen, you ascend to the bare knolls of Gunnarsskarsheio. Here there are great views. Along the way, there are many nice picnic spots and small tarns. This trip is not as well marked and less frequently used. Strandlivatnet round trip: The trip is approx. 3.4 km. 1-2 hours without a break. From the yard at Gaudland, the trip goes through the cultural landscape south on Ferdseleveien towards Strandlivatnet, and further along the lake. After turning off from the lake, you enter the forest and ascend to the ruins of a hay barn. The trip continues on a path uphill to Skiptingsmyra. Here you walk along the edge of a bog and continue uphill through the forest. Towards the end, there is partly steep scrambling up to the summit of Søndagsdrøosknuden (252 masl). Here there is a view all the way to the sea. The trip continues on the trail between Saurdal and Gaudland. At the trail junction are the ruins of the farm that was located at Lundan. From here, there is an exciting, beautiful, and old thoroughfare down to Gaudland. The trip is marked with red T’s, but it is probably less used and can be somewhat difficult to navigate. Kvitaheio: Summit hike. 4 km, 290 masl. Popular summit hike. Start like the Gunnarskarsheio round trip. Continue after the trail junction towards Ålekjertjørn 163 masl. Cross a stream before the tarn and follow the boggy area. Cross a ridge, go around the mountain, before the last section requires scrambling up to the actual summit. On the return, you can alternatively walk through unmarked terrain down to Spjodevatn. Here you can swim or fish. Continue back along Ålekjertjørn to where the path crosses a stream. If you include this detour, the total trip length will be the same as the summit hike round trip, 8 km, but allow more time. Djubedalsknuten: A magnificent peak at 257 masl. with a fantastic view. The trip is not marked. Dogs DNT actively works to accommodate dogs at as many cabins as possible. The cabin is not adapted for dogs, but dogs can stay in the outbuilding. It is booked and paid for in advance and is locked with its own key. The key is picked up at the Tursenteret in Stavanger before departure. The cabin is rented from 1:00 PM on the day of arrival until 1:00 PM on the day of departure.
