About this spot
Børsteinen – the perfect family cabin with short distance to the road and swimming opportunities right outside the cabin door! Location Børsteinen joins the ranks of many other child-friendly tourist cabins. Short distance to a summer road makes this cabin a popular hiking destination for the whole family. The terrain is easy to walk and clear, and it is only a 20-minute walk from Lyseveien between Ådneram and Lysebotn. Børsteinen is a good starting point for further hikes into Frafjordheiane or a trip to Kjerag. It is important to read information regarding the seasonal bridge further down in the text under “Access”. About the cabin Total number of sleeping places: 16 Number of beds available for booking: 12. Børsteinen is an unstaffed cabin. It remains unlocked all year round and does not have a food storage. The cabin has four bedrooms with a total of 12 beds. There is also a loft with a mattress measuring 120x200 cm. In addition, there are four sleeping spaces in the living room. The cabin is equipped with everything you need for cooking and your stay: kitchen utensils, crockery, and bedding. There is no electricity, but gas, wood heating, and candles. A sleeping bag liner or personal bedding must be used in the beds. As a guest, you arrange cooking, fetching water, washing dishes, cleaning floors, and tidying the cabin yourself. Thank you for helping to keep the cabin pristine for the next guest! If you have a car by the road, it is desirable that you take your trash out. DNT Stavanger and its volunteers usually carry most of the equipment in and trash out. You can drop off your trash for free at the environmental station by Fjellbutikken at Suleskard, or outside Frikvarteret at Ådneram. There are also environmental stations for cabin waste disposal along the road towards Kvæven and in Lysebotn. For our self- and unstaffed cabins, you must pay extra for the use of fuel. Activities A trip here can be combined with Kjerag, fishing, swimming, and shorter trips around the cabin. Bring swimwear and dive into the large Børsteinsvatnet for a refreshing dip. Many use Børsteinen for overnight stays on their way to, or after having visited Kjerag. 500 meters east of the cabin stands a tall granite block that may be worth a visit. Otherwise, you can take summit hikes to Vardefjell (1107 masl) and Sinneskulå (1188 masl). Dog DNT actively works to accommodate dogs in as many cabins as possible. Here, dogs are permitted in the outer hallway and in the outbuilding. Two dog crates are available. Out of consideration for allergies, hygiene, and potentially others’ comfort with dogs, it is important that you do not bring your dog into other common areas of the cabin, except where it has been arranged. Thank you for cleaning up after both yourself and your dog upon departure, so it will be pleasant for the next guest. All necessary information about bringing a dog to the tourist cabins, as well as which cabins are adapted for dogs, can be found here. Pay for food and accommodation in the DNT app In self- and unstaffed DNT cabins, you easily register and pay for accommodation and provisions (food items) in the DNT app. Have you pre-booked? Then the accommodation itself is already paid for – only register provisions in the app. Remember to download the app before you go on your trip! The app also works without coverage. For the best offline functionality, you should open the app before your trip. Read more about the DNT app here. For your bed reservation to be valid, you must arrive at the cabin before 19:00. If you have not arrived by this time, the beds will be released for the disposal of those who have not pre-booked. It may be wise to bring your booking confirmation for your stay.
