Shelter på Vestereng

The shelter belongs to Aarhus Municipality and can be booked via Book Naturen. The shelter site is located on an open grass area at the edge of the forest in Vestereng. There are good opportunities for various activities in the large grass area. A fire pit has been established in front of the shelter. Vestereng is an exciting and versatile natural area of almost 60 hectares, surrounded by industrial and residential areas. It is an old military training ground, as evidenced by the many bunkers and earthworks. Vestereng consists of both open grass areas and old deciduous forest. A disc golf course can also be found in the forest. The Magrethe dike from the time of Magrethe I also runs through Vestereng. Along the new super cycle path, there are plantings with various edible berries and fruits. Practical information: • When you book the shelter, you have automatically booked the associated fire pit. • You must bring your own firewood. • You are allowed to collect dry branches from the forest floor. • There are no water or toilet facilities at the shelter. • Next to the shelter there is a waste bin. • Parking is available at the entrance to Vestereng from Bodøvej. Directions: • Start at the entrance to Vestereng from Bodøvej. About 200 meters down the road, on your left, parking is available. Walk past the barrier and follow the road for about 190 meters to the forest. Continue straight through the forest. After about 220 meters, you will come to a T-junction – keep right. After about 90 meters, a small path appears on the left side that leads to an open grass area. Here you will find the shelter. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the shelter. • There are also many other ways to reach the shelter, including from the Skejby Hospital side as well as the residential area by Olof Palmes Allé.
