Close to the parking lot, there are 2 shelters, a large campfire site, a toilet, and space for tents. Here there is peace and idyll by Horsens Fjord with flowers and grazing cattle on the salt marshes. The site is sheltered from the land side by an old apple orchard and screened by smaller trees. It is less than 100 meters to the beach, which has excellent bathing water quality, very shallow water - good for children - here you can swim, wade, and catch shore crabs at sunset. A good place to see birds during the day; wading birds, cormorants, and the white-tailed eagle pair that breeds on the protected island of Vorsø, which you can see across. A good place to see stars at night if it’s clear, as there is low light pollution and a view of the sky. Perhaps you’ll hear the long-eared owl… Facilities: • Accommodation for up to 12 people (6 in each shelter) possibly with tents • A maximum of 2 consecutive nights can be spent on the site • Tables and benches, as well as a higher kitchen table • Fire pit – bring your own firewood; dry twigs and smaller branches may be collected • Leave the site clean and tidy – take all rubbish with you • Water tap open during the summer half-year, toilet open all year (dry toilet) • Relatively wheelchair accessible, as one can be dropped off at the parking lot near the shelter and drive over reasonably even grass – see photos. The site is located on Naturstyrelsen’s land but is established and operated by Horsens Kommune, Natur og Miljø. Shelters can be booked via link.
