About this spot

The primitive overnight accommodation site in Slettingen in Jyske Ås has, according to all the rules of art, been transformed into the art-shelter site “Geotopen”. It still has the same functions: shelters, a composting toilet, a fire pit, a woodshed, water, and benches, but the elements have been reimagined – both in functionality and visually. The Danish Arts Foundation has involved both architects and artists in the project, which draws inspiration from the area’s geology and nature. The shelters can be booked individually (see their respective pages), but everyone is welcome to freely camp and use the site. Tents can be pitched on the grass and on the wood chip area by the central fire pit. If the shelters are not booked, they can be used on a “first come, first served” basis. The site is located in the protected area Slettingen in Jyske Ås, and the Hærvejen hiking route passes right by – the Hærvejen cycling route passes close by. Do take a walk around the area and enjoy the nature and landscape. There are several good viewpoints. Driving to the site by car is not permitted – park in the parking lot at the end of Østermarkvej and walk the last approx. 450 meters. Firewood is provided, but it cannot be guaranteed. Use the firewood thoughtfully so there is enough for the next guests. Fires must be supervised and thoroughly extinguished. Keep the site neat and clean and take your trash with you. Water is only available during the summer months.
