About this spot
| In the historical landscape near Lejre, two shelters are located on a peninsula surrounded by Lavringe Å. The shelters do not resemble ordinary shelters – they soar towards the sky like the bow of a Viking ship. The two architect-designed shelters were designed by NORRØN and built by Nationalpark Skjoldungernes Land in collaboration with the local food association Lavringe Jord and Lejre Kommune, with support from Nordea-fonden. The shelters are located along two iconic routes – the cycle route, Istidsruten, and the 46-kilometer hiking trail, Skjoldungestien. In addition to inspiring more people to spend the night outdoors, the shelters’ unique design also serves to mark the national park’s legendary past, with the Viking ship as inspiration. Everyone is welcome to visit the shelter site, where in addition to shelters, there is a campfire site, a composting toilet, and an equipment bank for schools and kindergartens. Campfire site: There is a campfire site. Lejre Kommune regularly delivers firewood to the site, and it is permitted to gather fallen wood from the thicket around the site. Composting toilet: There is a composting toilet at the site. Parking: It is not possible to park at the site. The nearest parking is in Allerslev - e.g., by the town hall. How to book: Overnight stays in the shelters are free. You can book one or two shelters or the entire site on friluftsguiden: Shelter Booking (friluftsdata.dk). If the site is not booked, it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Note! If you are more than 10 people, you must apply to Lejre Kommune. You can book the tent site by following the link and applying for an outdoor event via Selvbetjening: Ansøgning om afholdelse af udendørsarrangement | Virk. |
