About this spot

Sleep sweetly in Hattemagerhuset. Where the road bends, there lies a house so beautiful… H.C. Andersen wrote this song in 1829, and one would think it was Hattemagerhuset he described. The small house, with access from Ågade in Tarm, has an exciting history that can be traced back to the 18th century. Individuals, families, and most recently Ringkøbing Fjord Museum have owned the house throughout the many years. The museum closed the place in 2016, and today volunteers in the association “Hattemagerhusets Venner” have the right to use the house. From June 1, 2026, it will be possible to book overnight stays in Hattemagerhuset. The house is furnished with 4 sleeping places. The house exudes coziness and is furnished in an old style. It is not luxurious like modern hotels, but you are guaranteed a fantastic authentic experience from a bygone era. You bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and cooking utensils. Hattemagerhuset is thus a type of shelter, just more comfortable and very cozy. In the small rooms, time almost stands still. Lower your shoulders and enjoy the peace away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In Hattemagerhuset, there is electricity and cold water in the tap. In the gable of the house, you enter “Gedehuset,” where there is a toilet and sink. There is a possibility for showering at Tarm Idrætscenter, which is located close to Hattemagerhuset. In Hattemagerhuset, there are descriptions of the house’s many residents. Read, for example, about hat maker Johanne Cathrine Jensdatter, who lived in the house in the 19th century, and about Elvira and Carl Jonassen, who lived in the small house with their 9 children. Use the lovely garden for contemplation and tranquility. Take a walk around Tarm town and visit the many exciting places run by the town’s volunteers. Overnight stays are booked on the website: www.hattemagerhuset.dk. Contact with the association “Hattemagerhusets Venner” can be made by email: [email protected].
