Sildevika

Sildevika is an idyllic coastal trail cabin with a great location on the mainland by Ormerfjorden, approximately 1 mil south-southeast of Porsgrunn. The old fishing facility with its main house, boathouse, and jetty is located right by the sea and has space for 13 people. The entire complex is listed by Riksantikvaren. The cabin can be rented from April to mid-September, and is very well suited for school classes and groups. At Sildevika, there is a jetty for visitors and good tenting opportunities right near the cabin. The cabin is booked by clicking the “bestill opphold” (book stay) button. Note that receipts take some time to be sent out, as the PDFs must be generated in the system. Note that tenting is only allowed in signposted areas, and not right outside the cabin. Porsgrunn municipality, through its coastal service, must have the opportunity to maintain the area around the cabin, and it is not permitted to set up tents and lavvos outside the designated area. Rental of Sildevika and rental period Stays must be pre-booked online by clicking the “Bestill overnatting” (Book accommodation) button on this page. The cabin is booked in its entirety. You will receive a code for the key box by email after payment. It is no longer necessary to pick up the key at the hiking center in Skien. The tenant has access to the cabin from 12:00 PM on arrival day to 12:00 PM on departure day. Book well in advance, as the cabin is popular. Also contact us if you are only using the area around the cabin, so that we and you have an overview of how many people are on site at any given time. Remember to bring and use your own sheet and bedding/sleeping sheet. The bedding currently on the beds is only protective bedding. Sleeping bags are not allowed. Equipment and facilities There are 10 sleeping places in the cabin and 3 extra mattresses. In connection with the cabin, there is also a jetty, swimming areas, and large lawns that can be used for activities and setting up tents and lavvos. ATTENTION! The area around the jetty is shallow, so caution must be exercised when swimming. Jumping is not allowed from the jetty or bridge. The cabin is otherwise equipped with the following: Cold water on the exterior wall, barrel grill. Bring your own charcoal. In the boathouse, there is a toilet (remember toilet paper). Stove and refrigerator with a small freezer compartment. Coffee maker, pots, frying pans, and cutlery. Dinnerware and breakfastware for 12 people. Toilets In the boathouse, you will now find two toilets: a public toilet intended for day visitors/campers with an entrance from the outside directly into the boathouse, marked “Toilet”. For cabin tenants, there is a toilet with an entrance from inside the boathouse. This door has a padlock, and the key hangs inside the cabin. Tenants are responsible for cleaning this toilet just like other cleaning after their stay. Users of the public toilet are asked not to leave toothbrushes and similar items, so it does not take on a “changing room character” as it is a toilet for everyone. The outdoor toilet on the hillside behind the cabin is also still there. Boat, kayak, and SUP board Sildevika has a small plastic dinghy, a sit-on-top kayak, and three stand-up paddle boards (SUP boards). These can be used, but it might be wise to inquire if they are in the water/boathouse, as they are sometimes under repair. The area is also great outside the cabin’s opening hours. Use of the areas for activities and camping is fully possible, tent pitches are signposted. Outside the main season, drinking water must be brought. Mooring a boat It is possible to moor your own boat on the rocks outside the cabin, but not on the jetty by the boathouse. This jetty is only for embarkation and disembarkation. The Jetty The jetty itself and its tables are public, and tenants of Sildevika have no exclusive right to use them. Destinations from the cabin The area available around the cabin is approximately 75 mål and has two nice islands as well as several swimming beaches. There are also several small peaks that offer fine views over the fjord areas, such as Plasseråsen, a well-known nautical mark and viewpoint, Isdammen at Bjønnes, Solvika, and the ice house plots at Solvika, Bjønnes, and Lajordet. There are also a number of ancient monuments/cairns in the area. At Matholmene just outside the cabin, there are good fishing spots. The blue-marked coastal path also passes the cabin. In addition, a path has been cleared that goes up and around the hill behind the cabin. The path starts on the hillside by the outdoor toilet, and the reward at the top is a wide view over the fjord. Work is underway to connect the cabin to the coastal path in Vestfold. Dog facilities For overnight stays, dogs can be placed in the boathouse, but dogs or other animals are not allowed inside the cabin. Preservation Sildevika is a well-preserved combination farm that shows the simple living conditions of the fisherman-farmer. At the same time, Sildevika shows how the property was transformed into a holiday residence in the 1930s without major changes. Few changes were made after 1936 when the property became a holiday residence. Despite significant pressure on the coastal zone in the area, Sildevika has been preserved almost untouched since the early 1900s. The entire site was therefore listed for preservation in 2015.
