Småvannsbu

Småvannsbu is a family-friendly and beautiful cabin located on a hill in Kjekstadmarka. The terrain around Småvannsbu alternates between open, beautiful pine forest and exciting gorges, and the area invites exciting experiences, especially for children. The cabin was built in 1941/42 for use by the management of Dikemark hospital and for the operation of Dikemarkskogen. Booking The cabin must be pre-booked, and it is booked as a single unit. Småvannsbu is unstaffed and opened with DNT’s standard key. Everyone can use the cabin, but only DNT members have access to the key and you must pre-book a spot at the cabin. The person responsible for the booking must be at least 18 years old. The cabin is available from 2 PM on the day of arrival until 2 PM on the day of departure. The Tourist Association’s cabins are used for outdoor recreation, and it is not permitted to have parties at the cabin. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed inside the cabin. Day visits You are welcome for a day visit between 12 PM and 4 PM if no one else has booked the cabin. Remember to clean up after yourself and Vipps for the visit. See notice at the cabin. Equipment The cabin is equipped with a gas burner for cooking food, a wood-burning stove for heating (in the living room and bedroom), a fireplace in the living room, and otherwise basic equipment for cooking and washing dishes. No electricity. The firewood in the cabin must only be used for firing the wood stoves, not for outdoor bonfires. You must bring all food yourself. The cabin has candles and toilet paper, but feel free to bring some extra. The beds have duvets, pillows, and blankets, but everyone must use their own sleeping sheet or bedding. There are two extra foldable beds including duvets and pillows. Each person must arrange for their own key, food, bedding, and cleaning. The main rule is that you should leave the cabin in the condition you wish to find it, and preferably a little better than when you arrived. How to use the unstaffed DNT cabins in Oslo Water source Water is fetched from the well. The latest check shows that the water must be boiled before it can be drunk. Cabin description The cabin contains a living room, kitchen, and bedroom with four beds. The cabin is located directly east of the northernmost of Småvanna. School classes and similar groups Småvannsbu is well-suited for school classes who want to go on a trip to an unstaffed cabin in Marka. For visits with a school class, the entire cabin must be booked with DNT Oslo og Omegn. The unstaffed cabins are popular and educational destinations for many young people. For many young people, it is educational to fetch water from the stream/well, light the stove, cook on a propane stove, and wash dishes by hand. All necessary equipment for this is available at the cabin. In the cabins, you will also find science books, children’s and youth books, and games. A hiking map is posted at the cabin, showing hiking possibilities in the area around the cabin. Before starting the trip, it is important to do good preparatory work with trip planning in cooperation with the students. Teachers/leaders must familiarize themselves with the regulations for using the cabins. Upon arrival at the cabin, it is advisable to review the cabin rules with the students. Feel free to distribute tasks such as cooking, carrying water, carrying firewood, and cleaning upon arrival. Remember that it is the teacher’s/leader’s responsibility that the cabin is left according to regulations, which among other things means it must be cleaned before departure. Check that all windows are closed and the door is locked with the standard lock. Asker Turlag The cabin has been maintained through voluntary work by Asker Turlag in DNT Oslo og Omegn, who are also responsible for supervising the cabin. Asker Turlag is a local trekking association under DNT Oslo og Omegn. The main goal for the trekking association is to facilitate an increased offering of local hikes and events.
