Grimsdalshytta was rebuilt in 2008, and the old cultural buildings in Grimsdalen have been joined by a new and splendid main building. Opening hours Grimsdalshytta is usually open the week before Easter and during Easter, as well as during the summer season from approximately mid-June to mid-September. The rest of the year, self-service accommodation is possible, except during the reindeer calving period in May/June. The cabin is locked with a DNT key outside of the serviced season. Rondane from north to south: Walk from Hjerkinn and approach Rondane’s major peaks day by day, including through Dørålglupen, called “The Gateway to Rondane” by many. Membership card Remember to bring a valid membership card. Facilities Beds are distributed among 2- and 4-bed rooms, larger rooms, and a dormitory. All beds have duvets and pillows with covers. Please use your own sleeping bag liner or bedding. Bed linen and towels can also be rented at the reception. The cabin has generator power. It may still be wise to have a flashlight in your backpack as the generator is turned off around 11:00 PM every evening. There is one toilet and showers in the main house and a drying room in a separate building in the yard. Self-service quarter at Grimsdalshytta To improve living conditions for the wild reindeer in Rondane, the Ministry of Climate and Environment has adopted an action plan. As part of the plan, the self-service quarters at Grimsdalshytta, Rondvassbu, and Bjørnhollia will be permanently closed after Easter 2026. The measure aims to protect wild reindeer during vulnerable periods such as late autumn, mid-winter, and the calving season in spring. School classes and similar groups: Grimsdalshytta gladly welcomes school classes. For visits with school classes, spots must be booked at the cabin by contacting the cabin directly, or DNT Oslo og Omegn, phone 22822800. At the cabin, there are nature-related books, children’s and youth books, and games. There is also some simple equipment for outdoor activities such as balls, boccia, and kubb.
