About this spot
Renosdammen (Damkoia) is a simple, newly built cabin erected in 2009 on the same site where a previous cabin that burned down stood. The cabin is located right by the Ulvåa river. There are 4 beds in the cabin. These are not equipped with duvets and pillows, so you must bring sleeping bags. Otherwise, it is equipped with a gas-powered hob and kitchenware for simple cooking. Heated by a wood-burning stove. Ulvåa is one of many rivers used for timber floating. Here, floating continued until 1969. The Renosdammen dam complex was built in 1892 and consists of a dam, two huts, a boathouse, and other floating facilities. There are two cabins on the yard. The smallest cabin (Damkoia) is locked with the DNT-key and equipped as a standard unstaffed cabin (can be pre-booked online). The larger one can also be used if the smallest cabin is full. The key to the large cabin hangs in a code safe on the wall outside. It can be booked by contacting Sørskogbygda Jakt Fiske og Grunneierlag SA. Renosdammen has been a trail junction and ford for “immemorial times,” and during World War II, several escape routes crossed the dam. Trails lead in all directions from here, so the cabin is a good starting point for round trips in the northern part of Finnskogen. DNT Finnskogen and Omegn’s cabin, Juskjølkoia, is the nearest cabin neighbor about 4 km to the northeast. The way is also not long to the farm Flisberget, which is also one of DNT Finnskogen and Omegn’s unstaffed cabins. If you like fishing, Renosdammen is also a good starting point. In Ulvåa you will find pike, burbot, perch, trout, grayling, minnow, and lamprey. Remember a fishing license! The cabin is open all year. During elk hunting, both cabins are used by Sørskogbygda Jakt Fiske og Grunneierlag SA. During that period, the cabin’s online booking is closed, and you must contact Sørskogbygda Jakt Fiske og Grunneierlag SA to check if Damkoia is available. The road to the cabin is not cleared every winter, but there are other cabins in the area, meaning only the last stretch is normally not cleared. It is advisable to inquire a bit. We therefore recommend checking the Renosveien Facebook page. Updated information is often posted there. Further information about the cabins at Renosdammen can be found on the Sørskogbygda jsk and jfg website. The cabins are owned by Sørskogbygda Jakt Fiske og Grunneierlag SA and managed by DNT Finnskogen and Omegn.
