About this spot

NB! In 2026, the self-serviced cabin at Mårbu will be kept closed due to wild reindeer. The cabin will not be available for booking, and we urge that it not be used. Mårbu turisthytte has its own opening hours for the serviced cabin for the winter and summer seasons. Click here to read more about the serviced cabin and reserve a spot. LOCATION: Beautiful Mårbu is located by Lake Mår at the start of eastern Hardangervidda. Around the cabin itself, you will find a friendly, gently rolling terrain, and further away, high peaks and valleys with summits up to 1400 m elevation. In summer, it is possible to take a boat across Mår directly to the cabin, or you can walk. Mårbu is located on Skartåkervollen along Søre Nordmannsslepa. The cabin is a natural stop on a cabin-to-cabin tour on Hardangervidda, but the area also invites great day trips and is well-suited for families with children who wish to stay for several days. Additionally, there are good fishing opportunities near the cabin. In winter, there are marked but un-groomed trails. EQUIPMENT: The cabin has 3 bedrooms with one bunk bed each, as well as a dormitory with space for 20. In addition, there is 1 bunk bed and 1 single bed in the living room. The cabin has all the necessary equipment for cooking and a pleasant stay, such as full kitchenware, tableware, and duvets and pillows. A sleeping sheet or bedding must always be used in the bed. In addition, you will find a good selection of food in the provisions room. There is no electricity at the cabin, but gas, wood heating, and candles as a light source. Guests are responsible for cooking, fetching water, washing dishes, cleaning floors, and otherwise tidying the cabin inside and out. WATER: The water source is signposted. In winter, you must melt snow. PRACTICAL USE AND CLEANING OF THE CABIN: 1. Tableware and cutlery are washed with dish soap and warm water. It is a good idea to pour boiling water over the dishes at the end and let them air dry. Clean the wash basin with boiling water after use. 2. Dining tables are wiped with soap and water after use. 3. Final cleaning upon departure: Thoroughly clean the kitchen, all contact surfaces, toilet, and floors. Clean the kitchen, including the dish brush, with soapy water. Clean the kitchen before cleaning other areas. Rinse floor cloths and rags well after use and hang to dry. Rags are changed regularly. 4. Remember garbage bags. Wipe the outside of the garbage can if visibly soiled. Take garbage home. PAYMENT: It is possible to pre-book a stay. For stays without pre-booking, payment for the stay and any food taken is made via the app “DNT Hyttebetaling”. Notices with cabin rules and prices can be found at the cabin. WILD REINDEER: What you love, you take care of 😊 https://www.dnt.no/villrein/ We are committed to protecting wild reindeer, and Hardangervidda is Norway’s largest wild reindeer area. Reindeer use different parts of the plateau at different seasons. See areas here. Stick to the trails, and keep your dog on a leash. If you encounter a reindeer herd, stay still until the animals have passed. You can read more here. This cabin has received support from the surplus of gaming funds from Norsk Tipping.
