About this spot
Lågaros is located at the intersection of several marked routes on Hardangervidda, and is an excellent goal for a first stage if you are hiking from Møsvatn and into the plateau. The T-marked trail runs through easy terrain from Møsstrond via Mogen and along Gjuvsjåen to Lågaros. The cabin was opened in 1960, and an emergency cabin was completed in 1985. The cabin is situated high and openly with good views towards the western parts of Hardangervidda. Separate entrance in winter: For your information, the main cabin has a separate entrance built for use in winter. The entrance door gets sealed by snow and is therefore locked for safety reasons. Please use the snow-free winter entrance on the south side of the cabin (towards Mogen). The door is locked with a DNT standard key. Closed during certain periods of the year: When wild reindeer are calving, from after Easter to mid-June. From mid-October to March 1, read more about the reasons for cabin closures. About the cabin: Total number of sleeping places: 38. Number of beds available for booking: 16. Number of beds for drop-in: 22. The beds that can be pre-booked are numbered (see floor plans under Photos). Equipment: The cabin has all the equipment you need for cooking and a pleasant stay, such as full kitchenware, tableware, and bedding. In addition, you will find a good selection of food in the provisions room. There is no electricity at the cabin, but gas, wood heating, and candles as a light source. Water is fetched from the nearest stream/lake. Guests are responsible for cooking, fetching water, washing dishes, cleaning floors, and otherwise tidying the cabin inside and out. A sleeping sheet or your own bedding must always be used for overnight stays. Notices with cabin rules and prices can be found at the cabin. Read our guide: how to use a self-serviced or unserviced DNT cabin. Recipe booklet based on the provisions pantry: In a new project, we at DNT have worked to develop a recipe booklet based on the provisions pantries at self-serviced cabins. Here you will find a number of tempting and surprising dishes you can make when you visit our self-serviced cabins. Take a look at our recipe booklet. Payment: Prices for accommodation and provisions: Please note that the prices at the cabin follow the price list of DNT Oslo og Omegn. Other DNT member associations may have different prices. Go to price list. Pre-booking via hyttebestilling.dnt: It has never been easier to book a cabin trip at DNT cabins. Via hyttebestilling.dnt.no, you can easily see when the cabin is available, explore cabins on a map, and book a spot. DNT Oslo og Omegn makes a limited number of beds available for booking. The rest of the beds will be open for drop-in. Arrive at the cabin before 7 PM to secure the bed you have reserved; after 7 PM, the bed may be allocated to others, but your booking is still valid. Pay for food and accommodation in the DNT app: At self-serviced and unserviced DNT cabins, you can easily register and pay for accommodation and provisions in the DNT app. Have you pre-booked? Then the accommodation itself is already paid – only register provisions in the app. Remember to download the app before you go on your trip! The app also works without coverage. For best offline function, you should open the app before the trip. Read more at dnt.no: https://www.dnt.no/hyttebetaling. Works with bank and credit cards from other countries. Payment form: You can also pay by filling out a payment form that you will find at the cabin. Upon departure, place the completed payment form in the safe and take the copy with you. We will then send you an invoice, but please note that a fee of NOK 50,- will be incurred when using a payment form. Remember to fill in the correct price for accommodation based on age and member/non-member status and all food you have taken. For your information, it is no longer possible to pay with cash at self-serviced cabins. Dog: There are four dog cages in the outbuilding. Bring a mat for the dog if necessary; do not use the cabin’s bedding or blankets. Dogs are not allowed in living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. Dog cage sizes: 3 pcs 105x75, 1 pc 90x65. More cabins on Hardangervidda: See an overview of all DNT cabins on Hardangervidda. Wild reindeer: The cabin is located in one of Norway’s 24 wild reindeer areas. If you want to know more about the wild reindeer’s use of the mountains and how you can be considerate of them, you can read about it at dnt.no/villrein. Here you can also read about how DNT works with wild reindeer and travel. The wild reindeer is a vulnerable species and is extra sensitive to disturbances in spring. Out of consideration for the wild reindeer, DNT will close its cabins on Hardangervidda during the calving period. This applies to the area south of Rv 7 and north of E 134. In addition, the cabins will be closed from October 15 to March 1 each winter. The cabins will be locked with a DNT key and are accessible in emergencies. This cabin has received support from the surplus of gaming funds from Norsk Tipping.
