Øvresaga

Øvresaga is an old croft beautifully situated in an open pasture landscape in Rausjøgrenda, south of Østmarka. The cabin is near Børtervann, which is one of the largest lakes in Østmarka. Three canoes are available for overnight guests. Booking: Øvresaga is unserviced and opened with DNT’s standard key. Everyone can use the cabin, but only DNT members get access to the key, and you must pre-book a spot at the cabin. The person responsible for the booking must be at least 18 years old. The cabin is available from 2 PM on the day of arrival to 2 PM on the day of departure. The Tourist Association’s cabins are used for outdoor recreation, and parties are not allowed at the cabin. Dogs are unfortunately not allowed inside the cabin. Day visits: You are welcome for day visits between 12 PM - 4 PM if no one else has booked the cabin. Remember to clean up after yourself and Vipps for the visit. See the notice at the cabin. Equipment: The cabin has no electricity. The cabin is equipped with a gas stove for cooking, a wood-burning stove for heating, and basic equipment for cooking and washing up. No electricity. The firewood at the cabin should only be used for heating in the wood-burning stoves, not for outdoor bonfires. Bring all food, some extra toilet paper, a sleeping sheet or your own clean bedding. A high chair is available at the cabin. Everyone must clean up after themselves. The main rule is that you should leave the cabin in the condition you would like to find it, or even a little better than when you arrived. How to use the unserviced DNT cabins in Oslo. Water source: Water is fetched from the stream by the cabin. Cabin description: The cabin is 55 m2 with two bedrooms and a large common living room and kitchen. One bedroom has a bunk bed and a single bed, while the other has two so-called family beds with a wider bed downstairs. A foldable cot is also available here. DNT Oslo og Omegn rents the cabin from Oslo Kommune, Bymiljøetaten. Mobile coverage: SMS coverage can be obtained on the hill above the bonfire area, or by following the path immediately after passing the bridge and stream, to the right up along the fence, some way up the hill. NB! No mobile coverage in Rausjøgrenda. Canoes: There are three canoes for loan for those who have booked overnight stays at Øvresaga. We recommend paddling on Børtervann and from Rausjø inwards to Vangen. The key and vests are inside the house (the vests are to the right as soon as you enter the hallway). A trolley can be used to transport the canoe to the water (approx. 1 km). Only overnight guests can use the canoes. In addition, there are 2 canoes that should only be used by people who have booked a bed at Bøvelstad. We have some baby life vests, some junior float vests, and some adult float vests. It is not certain we have vests that fit you. Please let us know if the vests are worn out/do not meet the desired standard. RULES for using the canoes for transport to and from BØVELSTAD: You must have booked beds at Bøvelstad to borrow the two canoes located in the corner of the property. First-come, first-served principle applies. Life vests must be used. Transport canoe(s) to Bøvelstad are locked with a DNT-standard key. After use: Clean the canoes so they are nice for the next user, and return them to Øvresaga. The canoes must be locked again after use. School classes and similar groups: Øvresaga is well-suited for school classes who want a trip to an unserviced cabin in Marka. Tent/lavvo etc. must be accounted for in addition. For visits with a school class, the entire cabin must be booked through DNT Oslo og Omegn. The unserviced cabins are popular and educational destinations for many young people. For many young people, it is educational to fetch water from the stream/well, light the stove, cook on a propane stove, and wash dishes by hand. The cabin has all the necessary equipment for this. In the cabins, you will also find science books, children’s and youth books, and games. A hiking map is posted at the cabin showing the hiking opportunities in the area around the cabin. If some students want to sleep outside, tarpaulins for lean-tos and sleeping pads are available. Educational material such as identification charts, nature trails, orienteering programs, and some simple outdoor equipment like lavvoes and camping stoves can be borrowed from our office. Before starting the trip, it is important to do good preparatory work on trip planning in collaboration with the students. Teachers/leaders must familiarize themselves with the rules for using the cabins. Upon arrival at the cabin, it is wise to repeat the cabin rules for the students. Feel free to distribute tasks such as cooking, carrying water, carrying firewood, and cleaning upon arrival. Remember that it is the teacher/leader’s task to ensure that the cabin is left in accordance with the regulations, which means, among other things, that it must be cleaned before departure. Check that all windows are closed and the door is locked with the standard lock. Tour suggestions: Øvresaga is a good starting point for tours in the area. We recommend: A trip to the observation tower on Kjerringhøgda. The old fire tower was restored in 2000, and from the top, there is a fantastic view over Østmarka. A trip to Tonekollen. The beautiful view from Tonekollen is one of the most photographed in Østmarka. On the way, you pass Vangen eatery. In the summer half of the year, we also recommend visiting Svartoren by Bysetermåsan and trying the raft built by the ØX association (marked as a point of interest on the map). If there is ice for skating, Børtervann is a good alternative. Cabin to cabin: The cabin is well-suited for cabin-to-cabin tours in Marka. Røyrivannskoia is 9 km north of Øvresaga.
