Turbohytta – children’s families’ hiking paradise in Hunnedalen (Øvstabødalen). Turbohytta is a brand new and unique tourist cabin, tailor-made for families with children and adapted for people with varying abilities. The cabin is named after Barnas turlag’s mascot and has a number of creative solutions that make it especially exciting for children. Here, young and old can romp with play, hiking, and outdoor life in beautiful natural surroundings, just a short walk from the road. Location: Turbohytta is located in the existing cabin area at Høgaleitet in Hunnedalen in Gjesdal kommune. It is just over an hour’s drive from Stavanger, and then a short 10-minute walk from Hunnedalsveien, perfect for small children’s feet. The cabin is at the gateway to the cabin and trail network in Frafjordheiane. The path from Høgaleitet to Blåfjellenden and Sandvatn passes right by the cabin, and a little further up the valley, the path to Tomannsbu tourist cabin begins. About the cabin: Total number of sleeping places: 34. Number of rooms: 8. Turbohytta is an unattended cabin for families with children. Upon booking, you will receive a unique code to unlock the cabin, which is valid for the entire stay. There is no food storage or firewood in the cabin. Turbohytta is locked and only accessible to those who have booked an overnight stay. The cabin is not available for day trips, but the outdoor area can be used by everyone. A public toilet for day visitors is available at the parking lot. Turbohytta has a total of 34 beds distributed across eight different rooms. The rooms are of different sizes, with two to six beds in each room. Five of the rooms also have a baby cot, and two rooms are adapted for dogs. At Turbohytta, you book the entire room for yourself and your hiking party. The rooms have different architecture, creative solutions, and fun names that make the overnight stay an experience in itself. Helleren: 4 beds + baby. 3. Snøhula: 3 beds. 4. Toppturen: 6 beds + baby. 5. Knausen: 5 beds + baby + dog. 6. Kompasset: 5 beds + baby + dog. 7. Bålet: 2 beds. 8. Fjellhylla: 4 beds. The cabin is equipped with what you need for cooking and a comfortable stay: kitchen utensils, dinnerware, duvets, and pillows. There is electricity and running water. As a guest, you arrange cooking, washing up, tidying, and cleaning of the cabin yourself. Your own sleeping bag liner or bed linen set must be used in the beds. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher. There are two bathrooms with toilet, sink, and shower, as well as an extra toilet room. Seven of the rooms have their own sink; only room 8 is without a sink. The cabin has electric heating and a wood-burning stove, but you must bring your own firewood. There is good mobile coverage in Hunnedalen. With eight bedrooms, 34 beds, and a loft, the cabin has good capacity, and is excellent for families with children and larger hiking groups with children. Turbohytta is reserved for families with children, and to book an overnight stay, you must have children in your hiking party. It can also be booked by groups of people with varying abilities, as the cabin is specially adapted for this target group. Activities: Hunnedalen is an outdoor activity Eldorado throughout the year. In winter you can put on your skis right outside the cabin, summer offers nice hikes, and autumn is a good time for blueberry picking. The area outside the cabin invites play and activities for all ages. Here you will find a bonfire spot, hammock suspension, and toboggan runs. There are many hiking opportunities, so there are hikes for all levels. Summer Activities: In summer, Hunnedalen offers opportunities for nice hikes, fishing, swimming, and playing in nature. Take the children on hikes in the cabin’s immediate surroundings, bring good packed lunches, and let the children play and explore. Several of the mountain peaks around Hunnedalen have mailboxes with guestbooks where you can sign in at the top, which can be a motivating hiking destination for children. Osmundknuten (842) is a nice hike close to the cabin, and otherwise there are mailboxes on Kvitafjell, Storeknut, Grønaknut, Tverråknuten, Fidjaknuten, Stutaheiå, Brådlandsknutane, and Hallbrekknuten. Right by the cabin there is a swimming hole in the stream, and otherwise in the area there are many lakes, rivers, and streams with opportunities for swimming and fishing. The trip to Djupavatn can be recommended as a nice hike and a good fishing lake. Then you follow the path from the cabin further towards Blåfjellenden up the first hill, before turning left after passing the last cabins. Winter Activities: Hunnedalen is a popular place for various winter activities. Here, children can romp with sledding, skiing, and playing in the snow right outside the cabin. There are several small hills around the cabin that are excellent for sledding, ski jumping, and ski play. Around the cabin there are good opportunities for children to practice skiing. Often someone has made a track that is nice to follow, and you can do some nice rounds among the cabins in the valley. In Hunnedalen, two circular trails are prepared with snowmobile and trail groomer on weekends and holidays when weather and snow conditions allow. The trails go around Kringlekvæven and to Øyarvatn, and are a good hiking opportunity with older children who are more experienced skiers. Another option is to follow the trail over Fossetjørn and Indre Tverråtjørn, continue down Kånedalen and through the cabin village on the way back, which also makes a nice round. If you want a longer trip, you can follow the trails towards Blåfjellenden and Sandvatn. Hunnedalen is also a popular place for ski touring. There are several nice peaks you can hike to, both on cross-country touring skis and backcountry skis. Storeknut is a classic, and otherwise Tverråknut can be recommended. Turbohytta is also a good starting point for child-friendly hut-to-hut tours further to Blåfjellenden, Sandvatn, and Tomannsbu both summer and winter. There is a marked path, and when snow conditions allow, the trail to these cabins from Hunnedalen is marked with branches. The path to Blåfjellenden passes right by the cabin. Dog: DNT actively works to facilitate dogs in as many cabins as possible. At Turbohytta, two rooms are adapted for dogs, with dog crates and separate beds for dog owners and their hiking party. These rooms have a private entrance to a separate part of the cabin, separated from the common areas. For reasons of allergy, hygiene, and other guests, the dog should only stay in the designated areas. Thank you for cleaning up after yourself and your dog upon departure, so it will be pleasant for the next guest. There are rooms of various sizes and something suitable for every family and hiking party. You book in advance, and then receive a code to open the cabin. Please check your spam filter if you don’t find the email. The code is unique and time-limited, and is valid for the period you have booked the cabin. Important info related to arrival and departure: The cabin has electric heating. Dishwasher, washing machine, and tumble dryer are run and emptied as needed. In the beds, your own sleeping bag liner, or sheet, duvet cover, and pillowcase must be used. The duvet covers and pillowcases that are in the beds are merely protective covers for duvets and pillows, and are changed regularly by Stavanger Turistforening. Upon departure, duvets and pillows should be shaken, beds made, and sleeping areas left clean and tidy. Upon departure, the entire cabin must be cleaned and washed. Floors must be vacuumed and washed. Cleaning also includes washing the kitchen, showers, and toilets. You will find cleaning equipment in the cabin. It is also very important that all windows are closed and doors locked. All food scraps must be removed from the cabin, and the refrigerator cleaned. You take your trash with you. There are trash containers in the parking lot. But feel free to take your trash all the way home and sort it at home. All lights must be turned off.
