About this spot
Melåshytta is beautifully located on Melåsen with views over the moors around Tvedestrand and the open sea in the background. Here you can experience the view, catch a beautiful sunrise, or simply enjoy silence and tranquility. Melåshytta is a day trip destination where you can take a break, eat your packed lunch, get a little warmth, meet others, experience the surrounding nature, and perhaps browse a book. The cabin is 25 m2, and has both a library and a wood-burning stove. Bring your own firewood if you want to light a fire. There is also a solar power system with lighting for use when it gets dark. The cabin is only intended for day visits, and any overnight stays must be in a tent or hammock nearby. There is a toilet right next to the cabin. In addition to being a hiking destination in itself, the cabin’s library offers a hiking experience beyond the ordinary. Here you will find books about nature, local history, fairy tales, etc. The books are intended for reading on-site and cannot be borrowed to take home. The hiking library is a collaboration between Agder County Library and the public library in each municipality. Melåshytta is part of the Dagsturhytta Agder concept – a collaborative project between all municipalities in Agder, Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank, and Agder County Municipality. You will find the same type of day trip cabin in all 25 municipalities in the county. Access to the cabin The cabin can be reached from several places. The main access is from the parking lot at the end of Ramsdalsveien by Lyngmyr school. From here, follow the marked trail to the cabin. The walk takes 20-30 minutes.
