About this spot

The day-trip cabin is located in connection with the Vest hiking trail which runs through the grazing and cultural landscape at the very west of the island. The hiking trail has starting points both by the lighthouse in Ydstebøhavn and by the innermost farm at Håland, which offers the possibility of a round trip for those who wish. Remember leash laws! Alternative 1. The shortest way to the day-trip cabin from the ferry quay on Kvitsøy goes along county road 4692, Ydstebøveien to the lighthouse in Ydstebøhavn. Follow the pedestrian/cycle path; there are signs for both the day-trip cabin and the lighthouse along the way. Do not turn right up to Håland, but continue along the main road towards Ydstebøhavn and follow signs towards the lighthouse. From the lighthouse to the day-trip cabin, there is a 1 km marked hiking trail in grazing land; this is the shortest and easiest route to the day-trip cabin. The trail goes west from the lighthouse out to the sea at Skiftesvik. Here it is slightly hilly with some wet and slippery sections. The trail turns north at Skiftesvik and continues over a fence stile; then the cabin comes into view up to the right. Follow signs and the red-marked trail for the last 220 meters up. Walk the same way back down to the sea and return to the lighthouse or continue on the hiking trail towards Håland. Alternative 2. A slightly longer alternative is to go via Håland. Then you also go along county road 4692, Ydstebøveien towards Ydstebøhavn, but turn right where it is signposted for Håland, Vest hiking trail, and the day-trip cabin. Follow signs to the day-trip cabin, and go over a fence stile right before the innermost farm. Follow the marked hiking trail and signs towards the day-trip cabin. This route is slightly longer and more hilly. There may also be wet sections, and places where the rock is slippery when wet. Return the same way, or continue towards the lighthouse and Ydstebøhavn. To and from the ferry quay, it is also a good alternative to choose Skjeraveien via Naustvollvågen and Skjeravågen instead of following Ydstebøveien. Right by the ferry quay, by the swimming beach in Sandrenna, one can enter Kyststien which leads to Naustvollvågen, and further out onto Skjeraveien towards Ydstebøhavn. The marked hiking trail runs through cultivated land where grazing animals are present all year. All traffic must occur along marked paths, and dogs must always be kept on a leash. It is not recommended to take the trip when there is strong wind and high waves. Time: 40-60 minutes depending on which path you choose and how fast you walk. Distance: 2.6 km from the ferry quay via the lighthouse and 3.3 km from the ferry quay via Haaland. The cabin is located 18 meters above sea level.
