About this spot
Håøya is an idyllic island on the west side of Nøtterøy, north of Veierland in Færder municipality. Here, DNT Tønsberg og Omegn offers accommodation in two coastal cabins with a total of 20 beds, as well as a dog cabin. You can also rent a boat or kayak during your stay. This is a true coastal gem where it’s easy to relax and enjoy the peace, the salty sea air, and simple outdoor life. Open for booking. From April 30th to September 13th, 2026, you can rent accommodation in the two DNT cabins on Håøya. NOTE! Håøya in Færder must not be confused with Håøya near Drøbak. Boat to Håøya. You can get to Håøya with your own boat or kayak, or rent one of DNT’s boats with an outboard motor. We have two identical boats (Pioner Active 14 feet, with 9.9 hp) – only the color is different. The rental boats are only for those who have booked accommodation on Håøya. Both boats are in the small boat harbor in Tenvik when not in use. When you rent one of the boats, you will receive a link to a detailed description of boat use, information about mooring, etc. Wearing a life vest is mandatory, and there are 5 life vests in the boat (the number of people the boat is approved for). If small children are to be in the boat, you must bring life vests adapted to the child’s size/weight yourself. For kayak rental, see the link further down the page. During the school summer holidays, there is a cabin host on Håøya who can assist with coordinating boat transport. The cabin host has their own boat and lives in a separate cabin (“Skipperstua”). See more info about access further down the page. Rooms and sleeping places. We rent out rooms and beds in two coastal cabins: “Godset” and “Oppsynsmannboligen”. “Godset” has three bedrooms for rent: “Hummer’n” (1st floor): space for five people – one family bunk bed with space for three and one bunk bed with space for two, plus one cot. “Krabba” (2nd floor): space for five people – one family bunk bed with space for three and one bunk bed with space for two. “Krepsen” (2nd floor): space for three people in single beds. “Hummer’n” and “Krabba” are rented out as entire rooms, while “Krepsen” is rented out per bed. “Oppsynsmannboligen” has two rooms for rent: “Blåskjellet” (2nd floor): space for five people – one family bunk bed with space for three and one bunk bed in a sleeping alcove with space for two, plus one cot. “Østers’n” (2nd floor): space for two adults – one double bed. There are duvets and pillows in the beds, but you must bring a clean sleeping sheet and pillowcase, or your own bedding. Sleeping bags are not permitted. Equipment and facilities. Both cabins have a kitchen, bathroom with shower and toilet, dining area, and living room. The kitchens are well-equipped with a stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher, and necessary kitchen utensils, crockery, and cutlery. On the first floor of “Godset”, in addition to one bedroom and a kitchen, there is a dining area with a table for 10 people. There is also a living room with sofas and armchairs, and a bathroom with shower and toilet. In “Oppsynsmannboligen”, there is a bathroom with shower and toilet on the second floor, while the first floor contains a kitchen, a dining table for 8-10 people, and a living room with a sofa and armchairs. You must bring your own food, bedding/sleeping sheet (sleeping bags not permitted), and clean up after yourself. The main rule is that you should leave the cabin in the condition you wish to find it, and preferably a little better than when you arrived. NOTE! The cabins are only for overnight guests and are unfortunately not open to day visitors or campers. Dogs. Dogs are permitted on Håøya. For dog owners, there is «Hundebua», an annex near «Godset», with two bunk beds and two dog crates (dogs are not allowed in the beds). The beds have mattresses, duvets, and pillows, so you only need to bring bedding/sleeping sheet. Hundebua does not have its own facilities. You must therefore also book a bed or room in one of the cabins and use the kitchen, bathroom, and living room there. The key to Hundebua is found in both cabins. Dogs are not permitted inside the cabins, but they can, of course, be outside. Key. The two coastal cabins on Håøya are locked with a separate key located in a code box. You will receive the code for the code box once you have booked. Booking and payment. The bedrooms and beds on Håøya MUST be pre-booked. This is done in DNT’s digital cabin booking system. The rental period is limited to a maximum of 7 nights. The rooms (and beds) are available from 2:00 PM on the day of arrival. On the day of departure, the room and cabin must be tidied, cleaned, and vacated by 12:00 PM. Cancellation rules. Cancellation up to 5 days before the day of arrival entitles you to a full refund. Example: A Friday–Sunday stay must be cancelled by 11:59 PM on the preceding Sunday at the latest. Cancellations later than 5 days before the day of arrival do not entitle you to a refund.
