Målia Stouslandhytta

Målia Stouslandhytta is a group rental cabin, where you book and pay for the entire cabin. The cabin is well-suited for adult gatherings, e.g., staff meetings, anniversaries, family reunions, and similar events where you can combine ski or hiking trips with pleasant meals indoors and outdoors. There is a beautiful view of Hedmarksvidda and a good cabin atmosphere. LOCATION: This cabin is located at the bottom of the yard at Målia. Målia is beautifully situated in the “heart of Hedmarksvidda” with traditional mountain farm vibes and panoramic views. There is a summer road via Budor/Ruskåsen leading to Målia from approximately June 1st to mid-October. KEY: Stouslandhytta has its own key which you will find in the key box by the main entrance at Målia. You will receive the code once you have booked and paid for the cabin. You can also contact HHT directly. Check-out is at 12:00 PM. EQUIPMENT: Stouslandhytta contains one large and one small living room, a kitchen, and two bedrooms. Including sofas, there are 20 sleeping places distributed as follows: bedroom 1: 6 beds, bedroom 2: 4 beds, small living room: 3 beds in a family bunk bed and 3 beds/sofas, large living room: 4 beds/sofas. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, electric refrigerator, sink, and crockery and cutlery for 40 people, various pots, and cooking utensils etc. The large living room has three long tables with chairs for 30 people, plus several stools. NOTE: Remember to bring a sleeping bag and pillowcase, as there are no duvets in the cabin, only pillows. Electricity and water: Stouslandhytta has electricity only for the heat pump and an electric refrigerator - otherwise, there are solar panels for lighting. Mobile phones will be damaged if you use a regular charger with the solar power system. Heating: Heat pump + four wood-burning stoves/fireplaces for heating. Firewood is in the outer hall, and an extra store is in the room between the toilets. A separate key for this store hangs in the cabin. Water is fetched from a well in the field outside the fence. The water has a slight boggy taste/color, and it is recommended to bring your own drinking water in your own containers. Water can optionally be supplemented at a water tapping point in the cabin area at Ruskåsen (approximately halfway between Målia and Budor/Grua). Fire pit: There is a mountain farm grill and outdoor benches between the cabins. Bring charcoal. The cabin is painted light, all mattresses and most furniture are new. The cabin is a good blend of light/modern and “historic atmosphere”. ACTIVITIES: There is a long ski season at Målia, an early season trail from Budor on the road over Ruskåsen, and part of a large trail network with three trail companies. Natural starting points are Gåsbu, St. Olav, Kveådammen, Brumund, Budor. In summer, there are many marked trails, both short and long trips, starting from Målia. DOGS: You can bring dogs to all HHT cabins, but Stouslandhytta has no special facilities for dogs. PRICE: Stouslandhytta is a rental cabin for groups, locked with its own key. It must be pre-booked here and costs NOK 1000 per night for DNT members and NOK 2000 for non-members, regardless of the number of people. HISTORY: Stouslandhytta is HHT’s very first cabin, purchased by our very first chairman, Georg Stousland, and handed over to HHT on Christmas Eve’s eve 1933. Målia was considered an attractive hiking destination when the tourist association was established in 1930. Already in its founding year, HHT secured a rental agreement with Per Øxseth in Løten. He had a mountain farm at Målia. Øxseth owns the farms Grims-Kroksti and Øde-Kroksti in Løten, which is quite a large farm located directly west of Ånestad. In 1933, Målia came into HHT’s hands. This happened when HHT’s initiator and first leader G. J. Stousland (HHT’s chairman 1930-39) purchased the building and gave it as a gift to the Tourist Association. This is the south end of the building that today lies at the bottom of HHT’s fenced area at Målia (Stouslandhytta). Lecturer Harald Bergh wrote in the jubilee report in 1960: «And who among those present could forget the board meeting at his place on Christmas Eve’s eve 1933 when, in his modest yet proud manner, with a sovereign gesture, he presented HHT with his deed of gift for Målia with inventory and associated amenities. A gift that truly characterized the magnanimous G.J. Stousland, and his strong wife Marie». This cabin served as an overnight and catering cabin until 1970. Hamar Red Cross Rescue Corps rented the cabin for their emergency preparedness from 1971-2011. Stouslandhytta was then taken over again by HHT. All cabins + the outdoor area at Målia have been renovated in the period 2013-2015. This cabin has received support from the surplus of gaming funds from Norsk Tipping.
