Free camping is aimed at “the quiet forest hiker” - an offer that allows for overnight tent stays “on the forest floor.” The goal is to provide different opportunities for nature experiences than traditional campsites. Here, there is only what nature can offer. If you wish to use, for example, a toilet or a campfire/grill, you must use the other accommodation options. The starting point for the agency’s administration of the scheme is that “the quiet forest hiker” should, as a general rule, be allowed to camp overnight in a tent anywhere on the agency’s areas where it cannot cause harm.
