About this spot
Halkær Mill dates from the 17th century and is located on the edge of the mighty Halkær Ådal. The mill was powered by water from springs in the hills. The mill houses a nature center and an exhibition, operated by Aalborg Kommune. From the mill, but especially from the heath hills behind it, there is a magnificent view over the river valley, the recreated Halkær Lake, and towards Limfjorden. From the mill, it’s a few minutes’ walk to the river (stretch with free fishing) and to the old medieval motte-and-bailey castle in the middle of the river valley, where there is a campsite with shelters.
