Tvismark Plantage

Tvismark Plantage and the heathlands are located on both sides of Vesterhavsvej, which leads to Lakolk beach. The plantation and the heathlands cover an area of approx. 200 hectares. The heathlands south of the road were partly acquired through the EU project LIFE Klithede in 2001, which aimed to ensure the preservation of the dune heaths. The areas are fenced and grazed by Galloway cattle. The plantation was planted in 1926-34 after the state had acquired the areas with the aim of afforestation on what was then the treeless island. The forest is widely used, especially on days when the weather is not suitable for the beach. The plantation contains the remains of the largest German radar position “Robbe Nord” from World War II. There are approx. 15 bunkers in the area, including Southern Jutland’s largest “Mammutbunkeren”. There are good parking lots and hiking trails, and a large barbecue hut where you can enjoy your packed food.
