About this spot
Sønderskoven is a prominent urban forest, located just east of Sønderborg, right up to the town. The forest has an area of 400 ha, and is divided by Sdr. Landevej into a northern and a southern part. The southern part faces Sønderborg Bugt. The forest offers several rest and parking areas, including the recreation and playground at Cathrinelund and the lunch hut at Egetofte Naturskole. The forest has a dog forest in the northern part, and a network of riding trails. Additionally, one can follow Gendarmstien along the bay in the southern part. Birdlife is abundant at Staals Mose and Fredsmaj. The southern part of Sønderskoven is designated as a B-forest. B-forest stands for protected forest, and in a protected forest it is not permitted to hold organized races and exercises.
