About this spot
At the westernmost end of the plantation, there is a primitive overnight stay site near “Skomagerhuset,” which is located on the road to Skallingen. The area is also designated for “Free camping,” meaning you may stay overnight in the area if you comply with the rules for overnight stays – see Naturstyrelsen’s website. In the plantation, there are two marked hiking routes – one starts from the parking lot (P1) on the northern edge of the plantation on the road from Ho to Blåvand. The other starts from the parking lot (P2) in the middle of the plantation – east of the road to Skallingen. On the western edge of the plantation, one of the West Coast’s largest fishing villages in the Middle Ages, called Sønderside, once stood. However, the fishing village disappeared during a storm surge in 1634, and today no visible traces remain.
